Hey parents, my daughter has 1 tooth need to pull out and other 4 need to fill, the solution I get from Smile Focus will cost $1200, then another $400 for a space keeper brace and another $500 for anesthetist. It is a paediatrics, quite nice but i feel cost is too high. Want to ask for some advice if this is the normal paediatrics cost.

That sounds about right. My son just had 4 teeth extracted n surgery to remove 2 embedded teeth. Cost was $2200 for surgeon n $500 for anaesthetist. He was sedated in the clinic.

Not to worry, sal. Your dentist may give your dd an interdental brush and she wd be taught how to brush in and around the wires. If the dentist did not mention anything, then do remember to ask and get them to demo to your dd how to brush the teeth.

If your dd is not given complimentary interdental brush, then u can get them from Watsons or Guardian - usually around the toothbrush/toothpaste section

Btw, the braces may cause discomfort to your child in the 1st week. I gave my dd panadol to help her ease the pain. Oh, she may also suffer from ulcers in the initial stage. So, may be useful to get mouth wash as well.

Oh dear! It is so difficult to brush with braces. More difficult for dd to eat as chewing causes so much pain.

My dd1 just started her braces 2 months ago. The poor things will \"suffer\" in the initial stage - about 1 week. There may be mouth ulcers too as the wires rub against their cheeks/lips.

Cook soft foods for her. The best is porridge or those soupy food/noodles. Avoid tough meats like beef and chicken unless they are minced.

I gave my dd panadol about once or twice a day just to help her relieve the pain. Once the mouth gets used to the braces, the pain will slowly subside after a week. Good that they are doing it now during the sch hols

Yes, I’m going to buy Nestum and Oat so she can just swallow without chewing. Already bought a blender to make fruit puree so it’ll be easy for her.

Hope she’ll get use to it soon.

Not to worry, they wd get used to the braces... eh... after 2 weeks? when the pain and discomfort subsides a little

Yes, she does. Explain to her that the wire has to be a bit tight as it needs to do its work and get the crooked teeth to move.

But if the wires are really causing her extreme pain and making her cry, then might be a good idea to go back to dentist to adjust.

When the teeth starts to move slightly (i heard less than 1mm a month ), the wires will start to loosen a little.

DD just had her wires retightened and it's causing her slight discomfort and ulcers again. But as the mouth is used to it by now, she's not hurting as much as before
