:?: appreciate all kind advices! my nephew got 20 for his N level and he refused to repeat and insisted tat his parents let him go private O!

I do not agree and feel tat he shld repeat! reason being, if he doesnt hv the discipline to study, private sch wld jus b a waste of time n money.

he dun wanna go ITE either! he say he missed the repeat form submission day. ask his parents to appeal to sch, he insist he wanna private...

how to convince him to repeat or go ITE. any parents out there can share ur views?

Perhaps there is other motivating factor that is attracting him to go certain private school. Maybe some close friends or certain girl that he fancy.

If he is not motivated to study, it makes no difference whether he choose to repeat or do O level as private. If u can convince him to repeat sec 4N, his parents must make sure that he put in the effort for his N level. If not, it will be another year wasted.

On the other hand, he can consider ITE. There is Open House in ITE (I think). Bring him there to take a look. He may be surprise at how big and well-equipped ITE is nowadays. There are many interesting courses he can choose over there. Maybe he is not aware of these. Show it to him. If he did well enough, he can go on to Poly from ITE. I have seen many students entering University via the ITE route. They told me they found their passion/calling at ITE.

Honestly, bigfoot nailed it on the head.

What to do with such teenagers?

DO NOT SUCCUMB to their childish demands.

(Some of them... the immature ones...) They don't know any better. :x

Some teens i know miss the submission date intentionally.
Cause then it would mean that the parents have no choice
but to enrol them somewhere/anywhere that offers private
studies... or else like have it on their conscience as if it is
their fault they'd be wasting a year to begin with. :nunchuk:

I also agree with tankee with regards to peer influence..
Based on personal encounters, i find this route an utter
waste of time especially if we know the teen is playful
and never been the studious kind. Teens also take for
granted if they know their parents can jolly well afford
              it (private education).

Hope the parents do not waste their money and also
the child does not waste another year of his life...

ITE in this neu day and age doesn't spell it's the end
anymore.. :celebrate: It has paved the way for many
              professionals and entrepreneurs alike. 😉

Good luck convincing the chap.. :xedfingers:

Your situation sounds like my nephew’s case (he’s in his 20s now).

My nephew also did not want to repeat his N levels and because his N level grades were so poor, he had limited options even in ITE.

He took the private O level route but ended up playing truant and getting F for ALL his subjects! That’s $5k down the drain.

If I were the parent, I would tell him my terms and conditions: if he does not get a certain grade by the first semester, he would have to pay the rest of the tuition fees on his own.

                  callmeks,

What is your assessment of this nephew? What is the root cause of him scoring 20 for his N-levels?

Academically, is he smart enough to make it?

really thks for all the comments…I too agree repeating or ite wld b a better option for him n I oso think he deliberately miss the submission of the repeat form.

but izzie true tat the sch can reject the student’s request frm repeating their N?

Some boys take time to mature.

For my cousin, he also did very badly for N levels. ITE courses, only got less than 10 willing to take him.

What my aunt & uncle decided: Enlist him into army early since he does not want to study and bums around at home everyday.

The experience really helped to mature him and he saw for himself how those with higher education are treated compared to those with only N/O cert.

Then he decided to take private O during NS. Did well enough to qualify for poly (but not much options). Then he found a job which he likes and has been at that job for quite some time already. Recently completed a private dip related to his job and got promoted. Not very high paying job but at least enough to support himself (and family if he gets married) and he’s happy there. There’s also possibility of him furthering his studies.
