[/quote]The other first batch of Ip schools don't officially offer O level track. They are all on paper full IP schools. Although, some IP schools may offer one O level class for students who cannot cope with IP programme, there is no obligation for these schools to provide such intermediate switching track.Thankyou jtoh, phankao, WeiHan, ycpang ... for all your inputs. All these things are so complex to understand.
It is very confusing indeed! Espeacially for the first time PSLE parents like me.
I still have one more burning Q. Do the other IP Schools(apart from ACSI) offer 'O' level as well?tisha:

i just wonder if there is a need to have 2 COPs for ACSI. According to MOE, there is only 1 COP (max 2 if there are affiliated primary schools), but no COP for IP. Imagine the additional 8 schools that will be offering IP soon - all will have COP for IP and non-IP, it will be very confusing. :?
Is this 245 COP for affiliated? Or even other school children can get into ACSI with T-Score of 245+? Please clarify. :?:
Is there a chance to switch to IB/IP for a student who is from the lower end of the Tscore if his sec1/sec2 results are very good?
Do the other IP schools also take in students with lower T-score than COP into the 'O' level stream? I mean do the other schools like RI/RGS/HCI... offer 'O' level as well? TIA
However, the second batch of IP schools...i.e Victoria, Cedar , Cat high etc...all will be offering IP simultaneously with O level. -

For those cannot cope with the IP program, instead of switching them to O levels track, they will put these students under \"structured IP\" program. It is still a through train 6 years program but it is more closely monitored and the teaching and coaching are more \"structured\" than the normal IP. Normal IP requires the students to be independent and self learning, and it is more mentoring rather than teaching. That's the difference.
HCI promises that once your kids enter the school, they will take care of them. I like the way HCI handles this issue. This gives many parents an assurance that their Kids will not be abandoned if they are unable to cope. -

Nanyang has a similar policy, in that they don't have an O level class. Weaker students are given small group consultations and remedial lessons to allow them to catch up. If necessary, they may be asked to drop a subject and take a lighter course load. That said, people have been retained/ asked to leave (I'm not very clear about the exact circumstances, could have been due to other issues like discipline problems).HCI has no more O levels class with effect from the batch of 2010 sec one. Really though, as someone who has been through the IP system, I feel that it isn't difficult, as long as the student is willing to work hard. It is challenging, but managable. In fact, I think we need to tighten the promotion criteria - to get promoted from Sec 4 to J1 through IP is much easier than having to obtain 6 points at O levels! -

I attended the HCI seminar for 2011 Sec 1 DSA intake in Oct this year, the principal mentioned there is a small O level class in HCI for those who have difficulty coping with the IP. He did not say anything about a \"structured IP program\". -
I heard it from my DS. He came home one day (can’t remember when) and said that his consortium director told them about this structured IP program during the assembly.

Thanks for responding. My DS is starting Sec 1 in HCI next year. I will ask the school. -

I agree - this will ensure that the \"standard\" is maintained and the majority of the student population are putting their noses to the grind. -

Well even if you get 253 you might not get into the programme. But still, I agree with you.
I am just concerned that if the school kept emphasizing so much about the IB programme COP as if it is the school COP and as if the other students from 245-252 do not exist, how will it affects the feeling of these students. Put yourselves in their shoes and how will you feel?ManU123:

Actually i think that separating into 2 COPs gives the students an option.
Perhaps some people dont want to be under the IP programme. -

The IP and Non-IP is for students to learn at different pace and though I agree T-Score from one PSLE Exam alone cannot determine the learning capability of students but I supposed it is probably the most quantitative way. It is also true that 253 might not be able to get you into ACSI IP program as they only accepted small number of students with 253. Many 253s were rejected. The mainstream COP shld be 254 for IP.
Also , ACSI is not a SAP school and will not count the mark for HCL. The COP for schools like RI , RV , DHS and NYGS includes the mark for HCL. So if we assume average HCL score to be +2 and we deduct 2 marks from HCI's COP of 257 , the true COP for HCI is really only 255. Agree ??
