I don't really think ACSI is doing well. Their COP has dropped by a drastic 5 in one year. All my friends that wanted to go to ACSI originally now run to other schools like River Valley. Anyone knows why is that so?

ACSI COP dropped to 253 in 2010 due to Scandal with the Ex Principal ( Old Raffles Boy) but has since increased to 255 this year. Both Sons of PM Lee HL are Old Boys of ACSI and Dr. Tony T grandson starts Year 1 in 2012 in ACSI IP.

Whether a school is doing well or not does not depends on COP. It's based on the achievement of the school it self in terms of academic performance, sports etc.

May I offer a possible reason? Monthly sch fee at RV is $ 30 while Monthly Sch fee at ACSI is $300......Difference is 10 X

      A question regarding school shoes.

The starter kit stated that can be any shoes as long as more than 70% of it is white.
Just like to find out what sort of shoes do the students wear normally ?
Anyone still wear those white canvas shoes from primary school days ?

Most boys do not wear canvas shoes. They usually wear track shoes or jogging shoes. Popular brands are Adidxx , Nikx , Asix etc etc. 70% need to be white and remaining 30% Blue to match with their Blue Bermuda/Pants.

Hi, this is from my last year experience. My DS will b Year 2 IP in 2012. The school never request any purchase of laptop and certainly no spec request. But there are many many projects and assignments that requires use of computer and many group works and presentations even in Year 1. So a laptop (mobile compared to desktop) is a necessity and a good printer too for submission of project reports.

In that case even a net book should suffice right ?
Got one lying idle at home.
Printer probably need to buy one since my HP printer really guzzle ink like crazy.

Yup, a netbook should be good enough but the screen could be too small though.

      Blur Dad:

All ACS(P) and ACS(J) students admitted to ACS(I) are given some special treatment. They can report one day earlier. No need to squeeze with the rest.

      Sorry, not \"Starter kid\" :rotflmao:
      Should be \"Starter kit\"

      The starter kit is free.

In summary, every information you need to know about administration to year 1 is in the starter kid. By reading the information, DS will roughly know what do to and what to prepare on the first week of school.

At first I still wonder why no welcome speech from the P, briefing, talks or something. After gone through the administration process. I guess it is not necessary. The briefing, talk, meet the teachers, meet the parents only comes after the Discovery Camp. I guess it is more effective and meaningful.

Quite impressive with the process and how it was organize. Hope my DS has chosen the right school

      Cheers

The timing of the high tea session not very convenient.
Is it necessary to attend ?

The meet the parents session is especially useful as you get to sit with parents of your DS's class and know the parents of your your DS classmates. Last year, we even exchange phone numbers and stayed in contact to discuss progress etc etc..

Good Luck to all who applied for ACSI !! My son will be in Year 2 IB next year and he enjoyed every moment of his Year 1. Very good balance between study and project work and sports. Hopefully yr kids won’t be same class as Dr. TTan’s grandson as he will be Year 1 ACSI next year. Under Pressure boy !
