In that case, the dad had a kidney transplant before and his wife would monitor his diet…after her death, he was unable to cope with her loss and just gave up on life. Before he died, he would bring his son to the graves of his mother and sister but now that boy is an orphan…it is so sad. The pain of not knowing his mother and sister at a young age.

That maid should not be given parole at all. She is cold-hearted.

        No worries Muffin.

Actually, there's a more detailed report here:
        http://www.asiaone.com/News/The%2BNew%2BPaper/Story/A1Story20081016-94194.html

The maid was indeed jailed for life - i hope it is with no parole...can't imagine her getting released!!! cos once released, they will deport her back to Indon... and we all know how it works... she goes back , get a name change & may come back here again to work as a maid? Scary ....

The boy is in Tao Nan school - i really hope he will grow up well & strong.
My heart also goes out to the boy...

        Thanks for posting the report.

Stories like these always remind me to treat my maids well, bite my tongue and don't scold them, even if they are underperforming and do wrong. Always better to send the maid back to home country, for both employer's and maid's sanity. Also a reminder for me to be cautious with maids (no matter how good and devoted the maid is) and avoid (as far as possible) to leave the kids alone with them... I rather be overly cautious than sorry.

Of course is too extreme to retaliate...

I agree absolutely that maintaining a good relationship with maid is impt and we should respect them as human as well.

However, to say that \"To these maids, they can't simply resign and knowing that they are bonded for at least 2 years means there is no immediate relief for them. This leads to them feeling trapped and helpless. So, when they think that there's no way to endure such abuse any longer they take drastic actions to get out the situation.\" This is not entirely so. The maid has been briefed her rights when she comes out to work, and I have had maids demanding to be sent back to agent for not wanting to perform certain task - don't want to take care of baby, don't want to handle cooking pork (even though they have been told of these tasks earlier). It is hard to comprehend that the maid can go to the extent of planning murder, but not able to plan to leave (or even run away) the employment by whatever means.

I know it is not easy for them leaving comfort of their home and social circle to work here, but the fact that they bear so much grudges and become so revengeful that they take drastic action to hurt others without consideration of consequences just shows their unstable mental state or flaws in character. I totally sympathized those maids who are being bullied and do not know how to stand up for themselves or seek the right action. Help should be provided in the form of educating them on their rights and fair treatment. But I really cannot sympathize those who took drastic action of murder, esp to kids or old people. These revengeful maids do not deserve any sympathy and should be punished by the law in a fair and just manner, not given \"discount\" due to political reasons.

            I TOTALLY agree :x

There is no excuse for committing murder, abuse or hurting others intentionally, whether the culprit is a domestic helper or employer.

The latest devept is the maid is found to be only 16 years old. She will escape gallows even if found guilty!

This is ridiculous! In the first place, she mis-reported her age to come and work here. Both her government and our government did nothing to ensure this information is accurate. How is the employer to know that she is \"underage\" and \" not qualified\" to take care of the kid? When a maid did a major harm like this, the embassy would get her a lawyer and start digging all ways out for her. Then the truth of age comes out! Where is the law to protect the employer who ended up losing a kid in this tragedy? In the shoes of the parents, I really feel pain and unfairness for them!

how to hang an underaged teenager?
how to prove the real age of a person? :?
some people may look very old but are actually very young and some may look very young but are actually very old mah.
in singapore, we still can track and trace peoples' identities based on birth certs and NRIC due to our strict laws but in foreign countries such official documents also can be printed and photocopied from internet mah.

Saw it reported in papers that all she would have to do was to get her parents and go to the headman and declare how old she is, and ta-da! she can say she's 23 and come out to work.

Just half wondering, is she really 16? Now say she's 16, but what is her real actual age?

Ludicious! And I remember feeling :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: when I read the report!

She's old enough to leave her family to work here, old enough to take responsibility for casuing grevious death to a poor, vulnerable child...but not old enough to take responsibility for her own action? That's crazy!

Well, even for those above 23, they will cite work stress, being in unfamiliar environment etc and then literally get away with murder.

I really hope such killer maids DON'T ever go overseas to work after their release.

Honestly, their own govt have no clue how old their citizens are; I dunno what's stopping such people from going overseas to work after they are relased.

last time my grandfather bluffed japs that he was not yet 18 so no need to be called up to serve japs soldiers.
