I was wondering, do the P1 kids in school compare amongst themselves with regard to how much pocket money they are getting from their parents?


If so, would your child feel envious or jealous if his/her friend was getting more?

Maybe not so much in P1, but when they grow older.

Yes, I always ask 'why my friends are so rich?' - can afford whatever they want. I scrimp and save, yet I could still hardly have enough to buy what I want / need. I am green with envy.

hm...this needs to be tread on carefully as I am guilty of trying to cheat cos I was promised of monetary rewards on achieving of full marks. :oops:

As always, you have mentioned an excellent point. You should give money not only when she scorces well, but also when you see when she has truly put in effort. When a child, especially a young one, puts in effort, they expect their hardwork to bear fruit and expect good marks. When this does not happen, they are disappointed, much more than you think. On top of this, if you show your disapproval, they feel useless and lose their commitment to their studies. They would think that if they put in effort but still do not do well and no one is happy with it, they might as well neglect their acemdamics and still do as well, if not better. However, if the child is EXTREMELY lazy(poor mum :roll:),the parent may seriously consider a monetary forfeit.

i intend to give him some coins to add up to $1.50 even though food will be catered during recess for p1. just in case he needs money to purchase stationery or drink or make phonecall.

My daughter will be going to P1…planning to give her 50 cents everyday since I will be packing her recess everyday. Told her to save up the money and not buy unnecessary things like erasers.


Son has $2 as the food sold in his school canteen tend to be more ex…told him to control buying unnecessary things from the bookshop too.

For my P1 girl, I intend to give her $2 to $2.50 a day. Need to monitor for a month or so. If she's not eating much (fussy), I may cut her pocket money to $1 and pack snack for her instead

My elder one needs $3 a day because she consumes 2 plates of rice plus side dishes. She has a huge appetite

I give my dd $1 and 510c to call me. cos she dont have H.phone. not every day but if she make a call to me or buy any drink/food I just replace them.

In the start of p1 I gave her 2$ + 510c but she started to buy unwanted stuff from bookshop( eg stickers, erasers etc etc). In the end of P1 she got friends and they play during the break.
