Hi Luanee, how did your DD join CCA since P1? Shall my DD apply CCA by herself if she want to take a CCA in P3, or her teacher will organized a CCA selection for all pupils?ctct61t:

Hi Ming,hi everyone,
Just wondering if RGPS let the students participate in UNSW ICAS tests?
Understand that we can only participate in the tests through school and they do not entertain individual enrolment though...
Thanks
Rgds,
Ming
I found a school letter under \"general letters\" for 2010 on this topic. It seems rgps does organize the school's participation in the UNSW ICAS tests. However, it is for p5 and p6 students.
Happy new year,everyone. :celebrate: -
personally i think it is reduntant to take the unsw ica exam it does not add value to the kid’s portfolio unlike olympiad maths competition.

Hi Herbie,
Thanks for sharing since you must be an experienced parent.
Agree that participation in the math Olympiad competitions especially with good results adds more value to the dsa portfolio. But could participating in the UNSW tests help students applying based on strength in another subject? I noted that it covers other subjects such as English, science and computers skills according to the school's letter. Having said this, I don't know if the top secondary schools place more value in math in their dsa selection process. Have to read the dsa thread. -

If you're applying via the Math domain, then a Gold or Platinum in the Math Olympiads will be important. A High Distinction in UNSW Math doesn't hurt either.Herbie:

For other subject domains where there are fewer competitions, a High Distinction in UNSW Science and English would help in your application. Getting High Distinction means you're top 1% in score, so short of any other competition results, this helps schools to gauge your ability. Note that this is High Distinction, not just Distinction. -
i think it is ok to sit for the unsw english paper… Dun need to take the maths n sci unsw paper. Why? Topics covered in unsw scí n maths are quite different fr our singapore syllabus. My son got an A* for Psle sci but for unsw sci paper he got credit.

Hi everyone I’m new to the forum and my DD is starting P1 on Tuesday. Does anyone know what books to pack and what kind of stationery are we supposed to bring.
TIA for any feedback! -

I disagree. Just because the syllabus is different doesn't mean the kids can't do well. In fact, it separates those who are merely book smart from those who are able to apply what they have learnt and read. And this is why someone who gets High Distinction will get more consideration in DSA. In any case, there is no need to study for or prepare for the UNSW tests. If you do well, it'll be a booster for your portfolio and will also boost your confidence.
