Principal is quite good and vice-principal is very familiar with our school as her daughter just graduated from our school last year. (She even gave us P6s a motivation talk when PSLE was coming to cope with stress, work hard etc.) .........Academically, not that well but still good. Highest for PSLE (our school) was 265, followed by 264, 263, 262 etc. 1 of my classmate got into NUS, another got into Nanyang Girls (both thru DSA). I think they focus more on character more than academics. Haiz....Will really miss CHIJ OLN...alot. It is very rewarding (for me) being in this school and if I could choose my primary school, I would still choose CHIJ OLN 😉 Hope your DDs will enjoy their 6 years in this school as much as I did ^^

wow desichan352, thank you for your post... it was so encouringing for parents 🙂 considering this school.

You’re very welcomed, Auntie lynn and Somebodymummy!

Just make sure that your daughter is coping well and ask her if she is facing any problems in school and talk to her about it if she does. If it is a big problem, talk to her form teacher about it. One of my classmates is socially challenged as she has cerebral palsy and she no friends (except for me) and everyone in the class hates her. Yes, it really is very sad. When I asked one of my friends why she don’t like her, she replied: "I dunno leh, everybody hates her so I just follow lor" And since I’m the only one that is her friend, many of my classmate would gossip about me and some even said that I’m doing this to get into the teachers’ good books, push her (she uses a wheelchair) so that I can take the lift etc. But as long as I feel what I’m doing is right, I’ll try my best to do it. Try to let your your daughter be that 1 out of 40 instead. If you think that her teachers are giving her too little homework, which some of my really smart classmates feel, feel free to give her more assessments and make sure that she does all her homework etc but don’t let her be over-reliant on you though. Yeah, feel free to ask me anything about CHIJ OLN and I’ll try my best to answer them. All the best to you and your daughters! ^^

          Good Day Desichan,

You seemed like a sensible child. Good for you! But it is quite worrying when you mentioned that you are the only girl in class who wants to be friend with someone who has celebral palsy.

There seems to be an implicit culture of "follow the crowd" and "fallacy" since you mentioned the majority of the class hates the girl and some of them simply adopted the herd mentality. And when you genuinely cared for your friend, many interpreted it cynically. Makes me wonder what type of values are taught in CHIJ Nativity. I do not blame the kids but the teachers and parents do play a part in cultivating good values and from what you described…i think i better reserve my comments. And i am not talking about stringent Confucious values here, just basic values on not looking down and discriminating people with lesser abilities.

If half the class are as sensible as you, i will definitely register my girl in CHIJ Nativity but from your experiences, it seemed like CHIJ Naivety. Perhaps i am being over-critical but my views are my own and it stems from the previous post (if all of it are true and not exaggerated). But i am glad you took it positively and had a great time. All the best!

            hi vodkalime

hiii,Merry christmas to u n all.i really like your comment and not only teachers r responsible for these moral teachings but parents too.but sadly, some parents still think \"In the selfish world, the selfish will succeed\".thus,i fully support the comments that you have posted and hopefully, these words can trigger off some improvements!last but not least, cheers to all the new primary 1 girls and i wish them all the best in their primary sch years....... 😉 (seriously speaking.....i worry so much for my girl...)hehehe.

              Good Day Auntie Lynn,

Wishing you a Happy New Year as well. I am sure, with your guidance and love, your daughter will do well in school. Hope to hear from you on the progress on your daughter. Mine is scheduled for Pri 1 in 4 years’ time and i am more or less settled on either CHIJ Nativity or Holy Innocents’ Primary. Have bought a unit in Evergreen Park as both are within 1km of the condo.

That aside, i agree that it is important for parents to place due emphasis on moral values, other than the incessant drive for academic excellence. What good is a smart child without a moral soul and EQ? Academic performance is important in SG society, no doubt about that, but spend some conscious effort on the moral well being of your child. Teach her how to respect people with lesser abilities, old folks and even animals.

Incultivating moral sense is not easy but it is not rocket science either. A little bit of effort can go a long way. May all have a wonderful 2011. Cheers

Ms Chew is former principle of St Anthony... a very good school. She is there for the past 8 years. My opinion she is good for St Anthony's past records...

I think she from St Anthony Canossa and not st Anthony Primary. Any student have any review of this principal?

I heard from my girl today that they are allowed to have some snacks in class before recess so she is not so \"very hungry\".they had to extend the recess time coz sch hrs is till 2pm.gd thoughts!i am ,so far, impressed with oln!my mind is at ease nw that she really enjoyed her lessons and she even thank me for choosing this sch for her .I am soo touched!cheers!

Hi happy new year to all, my little one is very happy with the school, her buddy is also very nice. Lately she told me a classmate demanded things from her and I think all parents need to educate our little ones not to take things from others, I do understand the young ones need guidance not to ask for gifts. Yesterday a teacher gave a card to some students who score full marks for their spelling n I heard this little girl who does not have the card demanded it from her classmate. She threaten not to befriend her if she refused to give her, poor thing the kind girl unwillingly gave that card to her, so I felt we parents need to constantly talk to our kids. They shud not be the bullly in class or the ones being bullied. Well the little ones characters need to be mould n we parents really hv an important role to play. We sure want to inculcate moral values in this young ones.

Ms Agnes Chew was from St Anthony's Canossian Primary Sch. My dds study in that sch. Ms Chew is a wonderful, wonderful principal. She is very caring and nurturing and IJ Nativity girls are very lucky to have her. 😉

When she was with SACPS, she encouraged a holistic environment, focusing not just the academic but the values and well-being of the students. As a parent, I think that's very important. She really brought up the standard of the sch when she was there.
