              What are the usefulness?[/quote]Hi MadamKS,

I don't know what u exactly mean by \"usefullness''. But, most students who had competed in SMOPS in primary school are likely to carry on with SMO Junior, then Senior and Open categories. Most do simply out of interest and passion for maths.

In my daughter's school, students who are encouraged to sit for this competitions especially if they display some passion and love for mathematics. If they perform well in the competition, with a GP 4.0 for maths and GPA 3.6 for the S2 exams, they will be called for a selection test/interview before they are selected to do mathematics at an advanced level from S3 onwards.

For students who wish to apply to IP schools through maths domain, doing well in SMO Junior I guess will be an added advantage, provided they meet all the other entrance requirements. The IP schools will be looking forward to strengthen their teams for the SMO Senior/Open competitions.

This year SMO Junior is indeed harder than the 2008 and 2007 papers.

The questions have been heavily scrutinised to make sure there are not many giveaway questions. It ended up that there is only 1 or 2 giveaway questions.

Last year's paper was also difficult as there were 10+ hard questions but there was about 5 giveaway questions.

If you want to discuss more, you can go check up lim jeck's site.

http://wwwdontmesswith6a.blogspot.com/ But i think there are a few mistakes in his answers.

SMS will officially issue SMO 2009 Solution Book on 5th Sept 2009, once I get the solution book, I can go through all questions, and try to solve these questions myself, it is really interesting.

An india girl (P6, RGPS GEP) shows her strong math knowledge and great passion, she entered Special Round in SMO 2009 (Junior Section).

She also won SMOPS 2009 6th and APMOPS 2009 7th. (one of two girls in top 20 winners of APMOPS 2009).

My daughter won SMOPS 2009 Platinum award, they come from same school-RGPS and trained Math Olympiad at same traning centre.

                      Congratulations! Surya

                        Well done Surya!!!

Your family, friends and your school, RGPS will definately be proud of your remarkable achievements. From what I know, it has been a long time since a RGPS girl has consistently produced top level results in national mathematics competitions.

                        Keep up the excellent work
