Asperger? Hyperactive?

It also breaks my heart when DS is shunned by classmates. I have seen DS trying to strike up conversation with other children or join other children playing at playground, but he is usually unsuccessfully.
DH was not very supportive of me sending DS for assessment, especially assessment by private doctor. He thought I was over-sensitive. He is worried abt the cost of therapy as well as DS will be label for life.
DS has been attending therapy (speech & occupational) at Child Development Unit since 2nd qtr of Yr2010. I see him puting his best effort when the therapist give him some tasks. Going with DS for therapy session really helps as I learn from the therapist his weakness, his strength, the better way to motivate him and get his attention to focus on tasks.
After each therapy session, I will brief my DH and maid on the recommended activities and \"best practices\". My DH, upon seeing DS improvements, starts to agree that therapy should be continued.
DS will be in K2 next yr and is currently on wait list for the social group therapy. According to the therapist, this kind of social group therapy is for 6 kids of the same conditions to play together for 4 hrs (with therapist), consecutive 5 days. Parents will be in the next room to watch them, with another therapist teaching us the ways to guide their play.
I think therapy helps us to understand and guide him better. -
I am helping a friend to look for social interaction class for her girl, aged 13, suspected of Asperger’s. Her girl has been isolated by classmates and has eye-contact problem.

My dd and my friend's dd has very obvious social skill problem. However my dd is not diagnose as asperger but more of PDD Nos. When she was in primary 1 and much younger, she avoids eye contact, slow in speaking, she creates her own words, very clumsy and not able to form friendship on her own. My dd often hunch & sits quietly in class. The teacher who voices out her concerns help to pair her up with a pleasant girl who does not pose a threat to dd. The threat actually is more of a psychological barrier. Finding her to team up with a quiet soft spoken girl and another girl who is slightly more outgoing but with pleasant personality and capability. I'm often present in school and my dd loves it when I socialises with other parents, teachers and her friends. Little did I know that my presence boost her confidence as I help to break the ice & she actually learns by observing how I ease my way in talking to strangers. She's now 11. No more issues in finding friends but I still need to tackle issues of her cluttered/untidy look which needs daily reminder.

My friend's dd named Germaine - is quite intelligent so has no problem academically. Has been very quiet since young. Doesnt make eye contact, not even to close relatives. Doesnt like holding hands with parents or hugging. Goes to recess alone. Recently doesnt want to go to school becos she says classmates shunned her - nobody wants to sit with her in bus, nobody wants her in their team for PE or projects.
My friend has read up on Asperger and finds her dd matches a lot of the symptoms.

Back to your friend’s daughter, its best for her parents to approach the teacher for assistance. Get the teacher to assist to help pair her up with someone of similar personality, interest & another with a pleasant personality (a good leader). I hope that will help to boost her confidence and out of her shell.
Back when I was in sec sch, a very quiet shy girl invited some of us (her classmate to her birthday party). I remember during the party, her parents were asking us if their daughter is quiet in school too. The parents were assisting her to break the ice. The parents later invited me to join their family outing. Yeap, the quiet girl gain a few friends through her parent’s effort.
As for out of school socialising, if you read my earlier posting, I will go out in a group & my children will have friends from different age group. I always try to foster good relationship between both my children. So they are highly dependent on each other when socialising. I usually keep an eye on them while talking to friends.
Does your friend has more than 1 child? It really doesn’t matter what the labelling is. What is more important is for the parents to assist the child in whatever help they can render. -
I've watch a movie recently titled Adam. Its a fictional story about a man Adam an asperger whose mother died when he was eight & was brought up by his father. Here's the trailer.

- extreme neatness
- the need to have the same thing
- stimming
- self hurt
- melt down
- attention to details

- having extreme social issue
Watching the movie is like having a cold water splash directly at me. To the mother in this forum, thanks for informing me privately to have my ds check for asperger. It really pays off to have an earlier intervention. -
Hi I am new here. Pls let me know if I should start a new thread.
My son is 3plus turning 4. Last year he attended 8mths of childcare, one moment his sch wanted us to send him for ASD aka Autism assessment. After pulling him out from the childcare, I was at home with him for 2 mths, then we had a reno done. During the reno we sent him to another childcare for 2 weeks with no complaints from the teachers and sch. Then this yr, he is attending a 3hr nursery. This is only the 3rd week and the teacher asked us to him for ADHD assessment.
My frd told me these days teachers can’t cope only anyhow asked parents to send for assessment is it true? Anyway l listened to the way they describe my son sound so alien to me. At home he got no prob sitting down and read a book for more than 30mins. He does run abt a lot, but he can sit down and complete a 48 pc jigsaw puzzle. He can do his writing( duration is abt 10-12min) while I watch my Korean show ( without being distracted, only slightly distracted during advertisement time). I even videoed it down. He can recognised Uppercase A-Z, row count 1-30 in both Eng and Ch. Recognised random lower case alphabets. Is he too slow that’s y the teacher feel the need to assess him?
His teacher told me he run abt a lot, no eye contact when she’s talking to him. Seems distracted most of the time, but can sit down and do his sch ( WIth interruption of movement, standing up to do other things). He can wait for his turn to play but was showing signs of implusivity.(As jumping up and down and keep saying I want I want.)Anyone here can tell me what is wrong? Or does my child only listen to me? I have been his primary caregiver since he was born, other than the 8 mths of childcare.
Pls let me knw how they assess the kids, do they do home visit? I knw that they do sch visit. As parents can we reject assessment? Pls help. Especially those parents who had gone the assessment or similar experience. Thank you in advance.

Do read through details shared by 2ppaamm, pingsped and myself on page 11. We list the details of AS and ASD.
You might want to ask the teacher why she feels your child is suspected of ASD or ADHD. Compare those findings with the details on page 11.
I sent my child to assessment not because the school request for it. But yes, there are feedback given from the school on my child quirkiness.
I went to polyclinic to ask for a referral to KKH to have my child diagnose. But was sent to IMH which is meant for kids in primary school.
Assessment is done in clinic. I am not sure if there is a home visit. -
