[quote=\"godiva\"]There is a Regional Studies Programme which is tied in with the Malay Studies Programme.
My daughter is keen on the above but also keen in Japanese. But I understand you can only take either RSP (Malay Studies) or Japanese as both are considered 3 rd languages.
I hear that dropout rate for Jap, French , german etc 3rd languages are very high. However, this is not the case for Malay STudies which has hardly any students dropping out- any idea if this is because it is very interesting/easy to study/score? OR is it because the school actively discourage/penalise students from dropping out of the programme as this is a school programme?
When school orientation starts, there'll be PSLs(peer support leaders aka seniors) who will be guiding you for the first term. Sign ups for RSP is later in the year. So have your daughter ask them this question, the seniors can ask those who are in the program itself, and will be able to give you a more convincing and better answers i believe.
By the way, i think, THINK only, that RSP is different from simply taking Malay as a third language, they are, or should be two different programmes, i'm not very sure, so just ask the teachers or the seniors
RSP is actually something like Area Studies, where you learn more about SEAsia. At the same time you learn Malay language in additional to the area studies. However, RSP has a certain limit to the number of people taking it, henceforth, there is normally an interview to select the students. Normally, those who did not pass the interview will to for MSP instead, where you learn only Malay language. So, MSP is actually a smaller picture of RSP.
And yes, RSP/MSP is much easier to score henceforth less pressurizing in comparison to German/French/Jap. And there will not be any penalty should one drops a subject, but the students are only allowed to drop them in midyear and endyear as the school believes that the students should be responsible for their choices and not quit as and when they feel like. -

It is good to know that there is no penalty/stigma if one should choose to drop the 3rd language, be it Japanese or Malay Studies. I guess if the student is able to cope and has interest in the subject after trying for a couple of terms, then she will definitely wish to continue. -
how about bus 190 (from dhoby ghaut to RGS) service in the morning?
is it punctual? what is its frequency?
thanks in advance. -

haha. GOOD QUESTION ;Dhow about bus 190 (from dhoby ghaut to RGS) service in the morning?

you should know that you must reach school by 7.20. reach your CLASS, meaning queuing up at the assembly area with your class by 7.25. that's when the national anthem starts.
It takes about 10-15 min to reach school depending on traffic and the time you board the bus. The earlier the fewer traffic.
IT IS NOT ALWAYS PUNCTUAL.
Assuming that the timing and everything has not changed, 190 comes in about 10min intervals, plus/minus.
The latest bus you SHOULD catch is the 7.00am bus.
The latest bus you MUST catch is 7.10, but it's risky.
so the best is to reach dhoby station latest at about 6.50 then walk up to bus stop, the timing is about there. buses sometimes do come at timings like 6.44am, 6.57am.
By the way, most of the time because of screwed timings of the MRT, you'll need to walk real fast to catch the bus.
With practice everyday, you can walk from the mrt platform area to the bus stop in about less than 4min
2 days.

Which MRT is nearest to you? My daughter took the MRT from Queenstown to Redhilll (1 stop), then changed to bus 132. She left home at about 6.40-6.45 am and was able to reach school on time.how about bus 190 (from dhoby ghaut to RGS) service in the morning?

Honestly, both buses 190 and 132 are not always punctual. For bus 132, you can try printing out the bus timetable from SBS' website, but it is not exactly reliable.
Therefore, it is always best to leave home earlier
and reach school earlier (like around 6.50am-7.05am is a good time to arrive in school, because you will have time to go to your classroom, catch up on any undone hw and then proceed for morning assembly.

20 minutes (7:05am - 7:25am) is not enough for those undone homework, right?

HI FRIEND!! i stay at sengkang too.thanks!

What i've said previously are all from personal experience of what i've been doing since sec1.
HAHA, the thing is as you grow older, you no longer chiong hw before lesson starts, you chiong DURING the lessons itself. but that's besides the point.
it actually takes 4 minutes to clarke quay, i shall check again on wed when i go to work.
SO. to answer your question.
There is totally NO POINT in going to clarke quay station to take the bus. (assuming you're right about the timing) - it takes two minutes to clarke quay from dhoby by mrt, but it takes about <10min to dhoby from clarke quay by mrt.
My advice is not to do what you've wrote. because when you're at clarke quay, you've probably missed the previous bus, by waiting for another bus you'll have additional waiting and travelling time on top of your original travelling time.
Dont worry, your child will definitely get a seat at dhoby, unless it is a single carriage bus, or REALLY too big a crowd. even so, the bus will be packed like sardine most of the time at the orchard station, so i really dont see the point in going to clarke quay for the bus.
but that's only my suggestion. Try out whichever timings you like for this coming week and judge for yourself
I stay near compassvale LRT. So i usually will try to leave house by 6, because of the waiting time for the bus/LRT. However, i'll either oversleep or take too long to prepare, so the latest i MUST leave house is about 6.15, and rush so that i can catch the 6.20+ bus to Compass. And then i'll take the latest train, about 6.40 to dhoby. Reach dhoby will be about 7, then take 7.10 bus to school, reach about 7.20.
This was my sec4's morning schedule, used to reach school at about 6.40+ in sec1, but came to realise it's pretty useless coz i'll just go sch and sleep, might as well sleep more at home. xD
Happy school reopening. Your child must be really excited hehe. Orientation is always super fun
oh. AND please tell me what house your child is in. she will know tmr.(or technically today).
I was a house comm member so im pretty curious haha
HAVE FUN! xD
