Yesterday, my boy(P4) told me that they got math banding. please advise any other subjects will be banded from P4 onwards. Thanks!
My boy only mentioned Maths banding. Has not seen the Science/Chinese teachers. He was told the Maths teacher could be Sci HOD
He also has a Co-Form teacher. How different is a Co-Form teacher from a Form teacher?
Btw, his class is very big- 45 pupils with more than 1/2 are boys. -
Jennifer:
Totally agree. In fact, this was what P mentioned during the briefing.Trapwithin:
the school is trying to do - conceal.
I feel that the purpose of the class renaming/allocation methodology is not to conceal the top classes but to dismiss the notion of a few particular classes being the weaker pupils classes. To me, it is a win-win measure. Abled pupils get to mix with abled pupils (teachers have an easier time to teach, a particular group of parents are also happy). Late bloomers are in a mixed ability class, less easily identified n get to keep their morale in check. -
Jennifer:
Ya my DD told me her class has 45 pupils too! But I never heard her mentioning about Co-form Teacher. Wonder how the teacher is going to handle 45 Pri 3 kids! It's going to be tough on the teacher.S6169:

I know .. initially they were saying they want to reduce the pressure from student, so do not want to stream into top or last class. That's why I mantioned concealTrapwithin:

Actually. I am 100% for the current system.
Let the stronger continue to compete .. hopefully in a healthy matter and they can spur each other to greater heights. While there is no distinction in the middle and lower band of the cohort, so that they can mix evenly. This will help the weaker student to be able to mix with some average student to be challenged and at the same time do not have to suffer from the self-esteem issue. For the middle group, they can always waork hard to get into the top 4 classes.
I just think that changing the name is a bit unnecessary and cause confusions. But once implemented, I guess they will bit the bullet and move on.
The other possible reason for renaming .. is the new intiative to enforce the school values into the the system. For example, my dd is in Respect (P2). Yesterday the teacher spend time to talk about the importance of Respect other people. -

Dd told me her CL teacher will be co-FT. There are 42 kids in her class. I was just having the same thought as you yesterday too, but I guess they'll have to manage.

smaller class size of 30 kids is only for P1 & P2, if the school has enough classrooms

Seems like there are many classes with around 45 pupils. My dd told me their class size is 45 too! She is in P3.
