If you not referring to some specific set of papers, the common usage is to use \"some paper\" (uncountable).

So the common usage will be in this form.

Please pass me some paper so that I can sketch the diagram for you.
Please pass me a few pieces of paper so that I can sketch the diagram for you.

So the best option in the given answers is (2)

              Dear friends

Can someone help me to explain the following.

Jill is such____ honest girl that she can be trusted to look after my wallet.
              1) a
              2)an
              3)the
              4)some

Ans is 2) an honest girl

My question is that why is an used here instead of a?

Usually an is used when the next word begins with a,e,i,ou but in this case its h

Yes, the ans is \"an honest girl\".
We say an hour, a university etc.

The \"h\" here is silent and we are pronouncing the \"o\" sound.
A uniform, though start with \"u\" as we are pronouncing the long \"u\" sound instead of the short \"uh\" sound. Hope this helps but me no English expert šŸ™‚

Sorry my english is not that good and also not sure of the rules.[/quote]If the word sounds like it is pronounced with a vowel, we use 'an'. 'Hour' and 'Honest' are pronounced like 'Our' and 'Onest', ie the 'h' is silent. Hence we use 'an'.

Take for eg 'Holocaust'. It's pronounced with an 'h' sound. In this case we use 'a'. The use of 'a' and 'an' depends on the SOUND of the word and not the alphabet per se.
