.... matter what, exams are here to stay. So why wait till P3 to introduce SA ?

This I agree! This teach less, learn more and no exam is so
My friends son first exam is P2 SA2, using that, band to P3 classes. Aiyoh
! Unless PSLE also change to show&tell format, I rather exams start from P1.

      Anyway...OT already šŸ˜„
Btw, which teacher is your son under in J&E ? Teacher Martin ? My ds was with them K1-P1.

@Brenda, would appreciate some quicky suggestions/tips how you and your dd worked on the Maths last year ?

        Hi pixiedust

We had a head start of maths during the Nov/Dec holiday before the school open for P5. We started with a break down of Section A (15 questions), then Section B (15 questions). Learn some method/strategy from some of the Assessment Book when we slowly switched to Section C. By doing all these at least it help to do within the time frame that require for Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Hope the above information is useful to you.

          Hi Brenda,

His teacher used to be Sam (Sunday mornings)...Martin is teaching him on Sat evenings.

          Hi Pixiedust,
:offtopic: It's just stupid lah :stupid: ...this whole nonsense about no exams for
P1-2 for kids from K2 to P1...transition thing. Fine, maybe P1 no exams but introduce at P2...at least kids get the idea of SA1 and SA2 into their heads and then have Science at P3.

              Hi Pixiedust

You're welcome. Chinese Language needs time to build up and the compo. is 40 marks for P5 and P6, as such no choice have to think all way out to improve the quality of writing.

I'm very sure you will be able to coach your child well. 加油 :celebrate:

My boy is in P5 this year as well. Reading all the posts here is quite scary. I think we should be careful with our planning and do not burn out the kids. P5 is beginning stage of PSLE preparation but PSLE is not the end of the education journey. For me, I make sure that there is time for sports and some free time to do his own stuff every week. I think sometimes it is the quality of time spent on studies and not just quantity.

I am very scared and stressed reading this thread. My ds is P5 this year. Since school reopened, he has been very relaxed. Homework also not kan cheong. After nagging him to complete his homework, he picks up his story book and read. School just started, very difficult to get him to do any assessment books outside of school work. I also anticipate a really hectic year ahead. Worried if we (both son and parents) can cope with the stress and tight schedule. :nailbite:

                      Hi ksme/jesschan,

Son had homework starting from yesterday...he told me 'chicken feed' not bcos it is easy, but it's just few pages although 3 subjects. I am relieved he is positive šŸ™ .
Getting him to finish up the rest of his P4 Cloze practice within these few days. I anticipate a hectic year ahead, esp since his supplementary lessons will start in Week 3...so go easy those 2 days after school.

I am trying not to burn myself out in January...still have many months ahead in 2011 and tough year in 2012.
