Hi Parents! I’m a student who has got 8 points for his O Levels after deductions. Is it possible if you could help me out on making a choice between these schools? If you’re a student from these schools, please do tell me more about your school likewise in aspects like culture, academics and opportunities for the future.

      - National JC (5) vs Temasek JC (6)
      - Catholic JC (10) vs St. Andrew’s JC (9)
      - St. Andrew’s JC (10) vs Anderson JC (8)
      - Temasek JC (6) vs Anglo Chinese JC (7)
      - Nanyang JC (10) vs Catholic JC (10)

(Brackets denotes the net aggregate score in entering the JC, sourced from JAE 2011)

      Thanks!

My son just received his O level results. It’s an 8 (already with bonus)

We’re trying to find which JC he’d be most suitable for and where he has the best chance to enter and finish. He’s not the type to study very hard and he really wants to take KI (Knowledge and Inquiry)
Which JCs can you recommend to me for aggregate of 8, appeals aside

For 8 point you can choose to go to SAJC.

                My thought.

Firstly, you must know what subjects you want to do in JC. You should find a JC which allows you to do the subjects combination you want. What is the point of going to a top JC but you cannot study the subjects you like?

Also, different JCs have different criteria when come to subject combinations. Eg. If you only do combined Science, some JCs do not allow you to do 2 H2 Science subjects. However other JCs may allow you to do so.

Similarily, if you did not do A Maths or fail A Maths, some JCs do not allow you to do H2 Maths.

                  This is a value posting!

If i may add, for combine science students, they must scored an A1 in this subject and generally, they are allowed to do max 1 pure science. Regarding H2 maths, most jcs would not allow non-add maths students to take it, however, there are few that allow if candiates passed the admission test.

All in all, for candiates that took both combined science and 1 math(E) subjects, they are advised to head for poly education.

Personally, I am taking Pure Physics, Pure Chemistry and A Maths, on top of the other usual subjects.

I am thinking of taking the classical \"PCME\" - Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Econs at H2 Level. Physics was A2, Chemistry was B3 and A Maths was B2.

Apologies for not being precise with words! Besides, if possible, is there any place to get stats of the JC, since MOE has stopped publishing figures since 2004.

                      Thanks!

                        How about Anderson JC?

Anderson seems to be good, though I haven't visited it as of today - open house starts on 12/1. How's the culture and performance of the school?

                        Thanks!
