All About Church/Clan/Society Membership

I think you got not enough time to become SHHK member to let your DD1 get into Ai Tong.
Not enough time? She wll be K1 next year.... so its another 1.5yrs before she start registering Pri 1...
agree with myrick88's post about kids born in 2006 being late for application for membership to church, clan etc. you might even have a problem with pv too. -
Hi everyone,
I've read through some posts but did not chance upon a similiar post. It's a hybrid between school/home distances and clan associations. Hope forumers can enlighten.
Some background:
1. Would be registering my son for P1 in 2012.
2. Hubby is a SHHK member.
3. Residing and NRIC address is within 1 km of NCPS.
Plan
1. Have a tenanted property within 1 km of TNS and tenancy ends around time of P1 registration.
2. Plan to register at TNS under Phase 2B using this address so that it's within 1 km of TNS. Plan to stay there throughout sons' primary education.
From the posts, we understand we need to register using the address on our NRIC. If we change to TNS address but fail to get a place after balloting, can we:
1. re-register under TNS phase 2C and if there's balloting, we're within 1 km category?
2. quickly change address at police post to NCPS address and register at NPCS under Phase 2C and if there's balloting, we'll be within 1 km category?
If we can't get into TNS, we hope to be able to get into NCPS and continue to reside there. But when do we decide when to change the address on our NRIC? After monitoring the phase 2B in both schools and decided which sch to register? Was thinking to do PV for NCPS and use recommendation for TNS. I won't be the first nor last to think of this but not sure if this is feasible. Does MOE has a pre-registration requirement for us to declare which address to use?
TIA from a vexed Maia. -
Hi Maia,
Based on the past stats and your situation,
1. you can change the ic address to the one near tns and be eligible for Phase 2B. But note, based on past demand, it’s quite likely there may be balloting within 1km. For NC, I think the chances are far lower (ie it’s likely you can ‘stroll’ into NC during phase 2B).
2. if you fail at 2B, you can still go under 2C and submit yourself to balloting. Note that if 2B fail, 2C even worse becos general public and failed 2Bs will join in the balloting fun.
Alternatively, you can go back to the friendly police post and update your address; and then go for NCPS in 2C - but as point 1, NCPS is still a popular option and chances of no balloting is going to be far lower than during 2B.
There is no policy as to when is the last day the address is valid. The school admin will only look at the address on your ic during registration.
If you die die want TNS and leave NCPS as the backup, do factor in a backup for 2C Suppl. It’s nasty news, but better be prepared than unawares.
Then again, miracles do happen - eg there wasn’t balloting within 1km for Nan Hua (traditionally another hot hot school) this year, so there is really no knowing - just a lot of teeth gritting (I guess).
Good luck! -
hi maia,
Pls remember, you have to submit your application to SHHK and state the school you are applying for; this is done way before the school registration starts. So sorry, if you are considering which school for 2B, you have to make up your mind soon.
And do remember, shhk issuance of letters depend on the demand for that particular school. I’m not sure how long your hubby is a member - but they MAY approve your application to one school and reject it for another school. This is not auto approve. And you will only know the status AFTER 2A2 is over (when they have clearer picture of number of vacancies). -
My gal is born in 2005 so will be registering her this year. My nearest Pri will be Yang Zheng PS. But we are thinking sending her to Pei Chun.
My hubby was telling me that can use the Hainan HK for registration. But I checked PC website, they stated that it does not qualify. Anyone can advice on this matter?
Also, even if we can register first but is it guaranteed we will be accepted?
I am very concerned if cannot get in then what will happen to my gal. Can we still go back to YZPS?
Any parents can advise what should I do is better? Should I just ignore and stick to YZPS?
Please help to clear my doubt.
Thank you! -

if you have clan membership, it's under 2B. YZ - I assume it's under 2C (unless you are PV). Once the phase is past, you cannot go back.
If you can register under 2B (PV or clan or grassroots), once you're in, you're in - you WILL know. The phases are clearly demarcated with days to register and days when the results will be announced. -
Hi hquek,
thank you for your reply. i will contact the school then.
thanks. -
Hi Maia, I hope you do not mind if I quote your case to learn more about the system. My boy is due to register in 2012 too.
1) Suppose the address is changed to the one near TNS (address A) before P2B but subsequently failed in the ballot.
2) Before P2C, can one change the address to the one near NCPS (address B) and use Address B to try NCPS in P2C? Is there a central system where MOE or NCPS would realise that this child used address A to try for P2B and failed and now using address B for P2C for another school?
Is it ok when discoverd that one changes the address within a short span of time for this purpose?
:?
Appreciate all's advice with thanks.

My understanding is that the system is configured as such not to let pp play games - but rather for parents to register their children in schools that are near to where the child live (or is taken care of - in case of caregivers who are grandparents/related). In Maia's case, I felt it's ok as long as they do live in the location they put in their ic during their child's schooling years. To me, it's wrong to eg, rent a unit with NO intention to stay there and use it as your ic address - this also is an offence I believe under SG laws.
But remember, when changing address in the IC, (I think) it's a criminal offence to use an address you are NOT physically staying in.
In fact, parents are not forced to stay in that one location throughout the years of schooling. And I recalled a case where the parent is going to move house - but still has not found a perm location yet; answer MOE gave was to use the address he is going to move from.
Now with DS1 in school and morning session at that, I fully give my thanks that he's in a school that is very near to us. I cannot imagine having to wake him up at 5am or 5.30am to attend a school that is further away EVERY day for the next 6 years. :!: -

Parents also do not consider the exorbitant school bus fees. My nephew study is serangoon north area but stays in changi and the bus fees $170 a month. Still need to pay during schools. That is only for 1 child.
