      hi maia,

Pls remember, you have to submit your application to SHHK and state the school you are applying for; this is done way before the school registration starts. So sorry, if you are considering which school for 2B, you have to make up your mind soon.

And do remember, shhk issuance of letters depend on the demand for that particular school. I’m not sure how long your hubby is a member - but they MAY approve your application to one school and reject it for another school. This is not auto approve. And you will only know the status AFTER 2A2 is over (when they have clearer picture of number of vacancies).

My gal is born in 2005 so will be registering her this year. My nearest Pri will be Yang Zheng PS. But we are thinking sending her to Pei Chun.

My hubby was telling me that can use the Hainan HK for registration. But I checked PC website, they stated that it does not qualify. Anyone can advice on this matter?

Also, even if we can register first but is it guaranteed we will be accepted?

I am very concerned if cannot get in then what will happen to my gal. Can we still go back to YZPS?

Any parents can advise what should I do is better? Should I just ignore and stick to YZPS?

Please help to clear my doubt.

        Thank you!

Best is call up PCPS to enquire.

if you have clan membership, it's under 2B. YZ - I assume it's under 2C (unless you are PV). Once the phase is past, you cannot go back.

If you can register under 2B (PV or clan or grassroots), once you're in, you're in - you WILL know. The phases are clearly demarcated with days to register and days when the results will be announced.

Hi Maia, I hope you do not mind if I quote your case to learn more about the system. My boy is due to register in 2012 too.

              1) Suppose the address is changed to the one near TNS (address A) before P2B but subsequently failed in the ballot.

              2) Before P2C, can one change the address to the one near NCPS (address B) and use Address B to try NCPS in P2C? Is there a central system where MOE or NCPS would realise that this child used address A to try for P2B and failed and now using address B for P2C for another school?

Is it ok when discoverd that one changes the address within a short span of time for this purpose?
              :?
Appreciate all's advice with thanks. šŸ˜„

                .

My understanding is that the system is configured as such not to let pp play games - but rather for parents to register their children in schools that are near to where the child live (or is taken care of - in case of caregivers who are grandparents/related). In Maia's case, I felt it's ok as long as they do live in the location they put in their ic during their child's schooling years. To me, it's wrong to eg, rent a unit with NO intention to stay there and use it as your ic address - this also is an offence I believe under SG laws.

But remember, when changing address in the IC, (I think) it's a criminal offence to use an address you are NOT physically staying in.

In fact, parents are not forced to stay in that one location throughout the years of schooling. And I recalled a case where the parent is going to move house - but still has not found a perm location yet; answer MOE gave was to use the address he is going to move from.

Now with DS1 in school and morning session at that, I fully give my thanks that he's in a school that is very near to us. I cannot imagine having to wake him up at 5am or 5.30am to attend a school that is further away EVERY day for the next 6 years. :!:

Parents also do not consider the exorbitant school bus fees. My nephew study is serangoon north area but stays in changi and the bus fees $170 a month. Still need to pay during schools. That is only for 1 child.

Very true and this (bus fares) is likely to only go up and up.

Currently, we take less than 5 min to drive to school. I asked the bus uncle and he was going to charge me $50 for one way a month - thought it was ok (at least the dollar value).

In my nephew's case, it was $130 last year.... with the petrol,etc.... the price went up by $40 this year.

Yes... not forgetting that when the child has CCA, if your real address is far away, who is going to help with the logistics. Parents fail to consider the practical elements as the key focus is to get into the desired school.

For our case, my P4 takes the school bus home after CCA last year and that is $5 per trip. We have 4 SBS buses to school from our place so sometimes I get my maid to fetch her.

This year, I've 2 kids in the AM session and I told them that if both are staying back on the same day, it would cost $10 to take school bus. I told them, they might as well take a cab home. It might be even cheaper. Anyway, I will arrange my maid to bring them.

Hi hquek, thanks for your advice.

Nowadays many have more than one property. One for own stay and the other rented out as investment. Since both properties are genuienly owned, the owner can choose which address to use for balloting and if successful, stay at this address during the child's school term. This situation seemed genuine and fair as the family really stayed there eventually. The only thing is, I am just curious if MOE or the school has the system to find out and query/notice the change of address during such short time (shortly after P2B and before P2C). šŸ˜„
