Think there’ll be an explosion in cases after the June holidays. Parents bringing kids overseas should come back by week 3 and self-quarantine.

Yup, the problem with most Singaporeans. They buy the masks until out of stock but keep at home for what?

My DD wore it to sch cos she was coughing and they kids surrounded her to question her. She said one boy even yelled at her to take it off! When I wore it in Japan 2 years ago due to a cough, one of family members(!) told me to take it off cos it looked ugly! :roll:

When DH went to Canada early May, we were prepared with leave forms and all in place, just in case he came back and develop symptoms.


If childcare/schools are closed to a single case of H1N1 infection in the centre/school, then it would really be an issue. Imagine how many parents would hv to take leave to stay home??!! But it seems that theres lots of folks out there who are still going for holidays like its no concern of theirs. Has even heard that some parents who are initally not going, took opportunity of the cheaper rates and decided to go!

Currently, we wouldn't even consider traveling anywhere via air especially, period. Cos, who knows the one near/next to you has just arrive from infected areas and is a carrier. Of course hving said that, we are not going to be paranoid and panicky. Life still goes on as usual, just wouldn't expose ourselves unnecessarily.

We have plans to spend X'mas holidays in US and the Carribean, but if the vaccine is not available by then and travels warnings are still on, we will scrap the plan. No fun being home quarantine, I wouldn't last 3 days w/o stepping out of the house.....

Till date the H1N1 seems to be more mild than the regular flu, but as WHO has declare it a pandamic, it shows that there is a cause of concern.

Just wondering how would it affect the F1 race coming in Sept...... we are trying to make excuses to avoid a couple of DH friends (from Canada) from coming for the race, cos they will be staying with us. Can't imagine if they got infected and we ended up suffering with them.

Parents here, what's your stand on this? Will you heed the school advice to stay away from school accordingly or you are that sort who think no big deal of the situation and will just continue with life as usual even after returning from affected areas?

We WILL heed.

This is a social responsibility.
We won't mind sacrificing 7 days off from childcare
if we REALLY had no choice to go for the trip ie. paid
tour charges in full upfront prior to the H1N1 outbreak..
It's a small sacrifice to prevent a possible outbreak and
if we had it... we won't want to be named that it started
from us and our selfish actions, most definitely.

Even till today, when our kiddies have flu with drippy noses
we do not send them to school. We will keep in touch with
the teachers and principal to be updated of the school's
progress with the children's school work and activities.
Children's work can be picked up if on long MCs or can
be passed to school bus driver to be dropped off @ our
place. :love:

I will heed because it is a social responsibility to do so. But I know not every parent think that way...fees paid already so dont want to \"waste it\"mentality! Even in the corporate world, in companies where there is no \"rule\" imposed yet, I see some will self quarantine (using their own personal leave) when they return from their holidays in affected areas but some won't do it because they don't want to waste their leave despite knowing that colleagues are uncomfortable!

MOH advises those who have travelled to affected areas to closely monitor their health and seek treatment as soon as possible should they develop symptoms.

Members of the public are also advised to exercise caution over travel to affected areas.

In the event that travel is unavoidable, the public is advised to take precautionary measures such as avoiding crowded areas and maintaining high standards of personal hygiene at all times.

If you are unwell with fever and a cough, but have no travel history to affected areas, you are also advised to see a doctor and stay at home.

MOH is monitoring the situation closely and will update the public should there be any new developments.

Have i interpreted correctly that it meant avoiding crowds when you are back or during your trip? I think MOH should place greater emphasis on self quarantining if you are back from affected areas in view of the bo-chap attitude of many! If you come back from affected areas - should have the social responsibility to keep away from the crowd!!
