25hourmaid:
Eh, but then again, why does tweety17 need to use the oven since she has already bought the z machine and can \"dump\" everything into it? :?Haha, welcome to the breadmachine family.
I set my oven to 175 to 180 and bake for about 20 mins or so, but then again, first of all, you have to know your oven, secondly, have to play by ear and see if the browness is to your liking or not.
Oh yes, must remember to grease your loaf pan hor!

Thanks 25hourmaid! U r simply great! Will try next time but for the time being, for 1st timer like me, I better stick with the Z n let it do the baking first, cannot be too ambitious, otherwise, may end up with no bread to eat :).

Worth a try, but be warned that it is a very tedious process to make your own bak kwa and for me, it took me many years and many failed experiments to perfect the originally recipe which I found many years ago. My poor men had to be my guinea pigs then! Luckily they need not be guinea pigs anymore now!25hourmaid, after seeing your bak kwa pictures, it made me  and feel like making my own bak kwa too.
But first thing first, I need to search for the recipe on the internet!
I have been making/grilling my own bak kwa for CNY for years that it has become a 'must have' at my mum's place, otherwise, my relatives 'will make noise' -
Hi Happy Mama,
Was thinking of baking a few loaves like 25hourmaid :). One loaf is only enough for supper n breakfast. We r bread eaters here too

Happy Mama:

Don't worry, practice makes perfect, have more confidence in yourself and in the machine! It is a good machine! :celebrate: -

One question... can we grill/bake them in the oven? or should it be toaster? So scared it will become Cao Tar!Worth a try, but be warned that it is a very tedious process to make your own bak kwa and for me, it took me many years and many failed experiments to perfect the originally recipe which I found many years ago. I saw the recipe, it looks quite simple. Why do you saw it is a tedious process? Or, did I miss out anything?
Any tips I should know before I attempt?

You are most welcome! Me no great! Merely sharing what I know.
Yes, don't be too ambitious. Start from basic and experiment from there as you go along. Once you have perfected your loaves, you might want to go into buns. -
tweety17:
Oh I see, but then 25hourmaid made 3 mini loaves with 1 z loaf recipe. So if you need to make more, then you will have to double or triple your ingredientsHi Happy Mama,

The grill effect from the oven/toaster will not be the same as if they were grilled over charcoal fire or electric open face grill.Happy Mama:
Not sure which recipe you have seen but the gist of making bak kwa involves marinating the meat, speading them out thinly and evenly (that's the tedious part) and drying them (another time consuming procedure) so that they become 'sheet-like', cutting them into pieces and finally grilling them SLOWLY, (it is also very tedious especially if you do bulk grilling in my case) otherwise you get cao tar bak kwa.I saw the recipe, it looks quite simple. No tips, but by trail and error and lots of time and experimenting to get the perfect bak kwa. -
25hourmaid:
Oh I see. So to grill bak kwa, what electrical appliance should I get now? :? Oh dear, must spend more $$$ again.Happy Mama:
