        25hourmaid:
Worth a try, but be warned that it is a very tedious process to make your own bak kwa and for me, it took me many years and many failed experiments to perfect the originally recipe which I found many years ago. My poor men had to be my guinea pigs then! Luckily they need not be guinea pigs anymore now!

I have been making/grilling my own bak kwa for CNY for years that it has become a 'must have' at my mum's place, otherwise, my relatives 'will make noise'
One question... can we grill/bake them in the oven? or should it be toaster? So scared it will become Cao Tar! 😒

I saw the recipe, it looks quite simple. Why do you saw it is a tedious process? Or, did I miss out anything? πŸ‘… Any tips I should know before I attempt? πŸ˜‰

Thanks 25hourmaid! U r simply great! Will try next time but for the time being, for 1st timer like me, I better stick with the Z n let it do the baking first, cannot be too ambitious, otherwise, may end up with no bread to eat :).

You are most welcome! Me no great! Merely sharing what I know. πŸ˜‰

Yes, don't be too ambitious. Start from basic and experiment from there as you go along. Once you have perfected your loaves, you might want to go into buns.

            Hi Happy Mama,

Was thinking of baking a few loaves like 25hourmaid :). One loaf is only enough for supper n breakfast. We r bread eaters here too πŸ™‚
Oh I see, but then 25hourmaid made 3 mini loaves with 1 z loaf recipe. So if you need to make more, then you will have to double or triple your ingredients πŸ˜‰

The grill effect from the oven/toaster will not be the same as if they were grilled over charcoal fire or electric open face grill.

Not sure which recipe you have seen but the gist of making bak kwa involves marinating the meat, speading them out thinly and evenly (that's the tedious part) and drying them (another time consuming procedure) so that they become 'sheet-like', cutting them into pieces and finally grilling them SLOWLY, (it is also very tedious especially if you do bulk grilling in my case) otherwise you get cao tar bak kwa.

No tips, but by trail and error and lots of time and experimenting to get the perfect bak kwa.

Oh I see. So to grill bak kwa, what electrical appliance should I get now? :? Oh dear, must spend more $$$ again. πŸ˜‰

wow....bagua u also know how to make...hats off to u....

how is the taste like ?? last time, i have a fren who let me sample her home-made bagua,
dun taste like the commerical one, like short of some spice taste ....
i believe there may be some \"secret ingredients\"

No secret ingredients involved, but mine taste like commercial ones minus the preservative and colouring used.

                  thks maid for the info.

                      Hi Happy Mama,

Thanks for yr advice. But wonder if the Z can knead properly with double or triple ingredients. Hee hee, but I better don't stress it now, better bake loaf by loaf, don't be too kancheong n end up machine overwork n kaput be4 i can have positive return of investment πŸ™‚
