All about ortho-k lenses - my daughter's myopia journey

She told me she only felt pain when i took out the lens but the eyes were not red after a while. I checked with the optical shop boss, he told me because it was too dry. I am the one always doing the cleaning, as i am wearing contact lens so i know the consequences if the lens were not cleaned properly. Sometimes at night, when i put in the lens for her, she was moving here and there and it might result in the lens not bening placed in the right position. I always checked to ensure that the lens are at the centre before she goes to sleep. Is the pain due to the dryness of the eye? Orelse i will bring her go and see the eye specialist. I had checked with SNEC before and they don’t advise children wearing the lens to sleep.

My daughter was on ortho k lens for two weeks. She always complained that her eyes were pain after i put in the eye drop for her in the morning before i took out the lens. Her eyes were always red when she wakes out every morning and she cannot open her eyes. Even i the evening after i put in the lens for her the moment the eyes turned red also. Can anyone advise? I was worried because i do not want anything happened to her eyes and i already paid in full for the lens of more thank 1k. :?:

what's your optometrist say?

in the beginning stage, eye discharge or redness is normal. after a while, the eye will get better. If situation prolong, you may need to check with your optometrist

How come need to change the lens? My friend daughter who is on ortho k lens with another optical shop do not have such problem. And yes, my daughter is having discharge also, is that common and how long will it last? Because I am afraid that the discharge is due to infection. :?

Could it be that your child is rubbing her eyes when she’s asleep, leading to irritation?

Hi, did your daughter put on a trial pair of lens prior to this? Another way is to try to nudge the upper and lower parts of the eye lids (with eyes closed) before removing the lens. It works on my son to 'wet' the eyes and loosen the lens. Basically, I ask him to do all the necessary tasks once he wakes up, eg go toilet, eat breakfast, brush teeth etc, before I remove his lens to again, give the eyes more time to be wet to minimize any uncomfort when removing the lens.

Just to correct the charges for St Isaac -

- Price range from $1600-$2200 for 1st year which includes FOC len changes if degrees increase during this period
- 2nd yr onward need to pay $45 for 4 times of follow-up session
(Once every 3 mth)
- replacement lens at $650/pair
- They DO provide cleansing of lens FOC during every follow-up session which is once every 3 months after the 1st few appts
- There is a trial pair of lens + testing + assessments which cost $300+. This amt will be deducted from the $1600 if one decides to continue with treatment

I requested for a trial but the boss told me to put a $500 deposit and told me that most of them don’t go for trial because the lens he used are the actual lens and not trial lens. So in the end i didn’t go for trial.

My P3 boy started wearing glasses this Mar, a big jump when we went back to the optician this July. Now on Myovision lens. If still not controlled, I wld also consider ok-lens.

Which shop did you go and asking for $500 trial? that's too expensive. Apparently it is not one of the center in my list.
The one that I am using offer the cheapest trial fee so far.

The way this lens work is by using the eye lid to flatten the surface of the cornea. My warning for parents who's kid is using this lens have to ensure the lens is cleaned properly. There are cases lke kid went partial blindness as baterial eats up the surface of the cornea. Make sure the optical shop do proper cleaning and protein removal when you send your lens for cleaning. For better hygenie, i would previously recommend my customer to clean the lens once a wekk. I gain my knowledge from this product is because i sold it and studied about the product before.


Close monitoring needed when using this lens. Kids with high astig are not recommended for this lens. It aids only people with myopia. Please not that not all people suit OK lens. Proper examination required before using. If experience discomfort it could be the contents of the solution. Some people do have allergy.

In the inital stage when you 1st wear the lens, the clear vision will not last you for 1 whole day. As you increase your frequency of wearing, the duration of clear vision will increase. So base on the shape of your cornea, the lens will be specially order to correct your vision to perfection. But this is not forever. When you stop using it, the degree will still comes back.
