Your son was interested? I guess Yishun can be a distance if you don't stay near there.

Hi, thought I would join in on this interesting discussion on CCA, especially on Shooting.

My wife and I also had concerns on the time-consuming travel to Yishun for this CCA. On months when there are shooting competitions, we were told the boys can be expected to train 4 to 5 times weekly. On other months, the weekly training frequency is 3 to 4 times.

Our son went for the trials yesterday and was given the form to apply for Shooting CCA (the PRC coach liked his steady hands when holding the pistol). He said he was 4th on the list. We are already speaking to our boy on considering an alternative CCA.

He also went for the String ensemble trial and looks like he might be offered a place there as well. They said they would sms him soon on the result of his trial. However, he prefers shooting over the cello.

One other CCA that he was told he had a good chance to get accepted was Judo! My wife was not keen on him doing Judo - fear of the pospect of broken bones and limbs.

Anyone has comments on Judo as CCA?

Anyway, we now have a challenge trying to manage our boy's CCA expectations and wishes.

Hi fellow Rafflesian Parents,


Just wonder if any of you had encountered situations when your ds brought home white shirt that is obviously not his or with the wrong size during PE days?

According to my ds, this mix-up happens all the time, when the boys just threw their shirts onto a pile and happily went for their PE lessons/soccer games and etc.

Recently my ds brought back a stained, soiled and worn out shirt 2 size bigger than his! I was fuming mad :x . The shirt he wore to school that day was a brand new one, he barely wore it for half a day :stupid: . He said he tried asking around but the group is too big as there were a few classes having PE that day. Although this is the first time in his >2years at RI, I'm still very angry with him (for not taking care of his belongings) at what happened. I wanted to call his teacher/the school/etc for help in finding his shirt as I believe some others should also be in the same situation. He was :!: He urged me not to embarass him as my action will make him seem like someone who cannot handle his own affairs.

Am I sweating he small stuff? What will you do if you are in the same situation?

I understand your son not wanting to bring the matter up to his teachers as it would be embarrassing for him. How about asking your son to post this on facebook and maybe word will get around and the shirt will find its way back to your son?

To avoid this in future, maybe you can write your son's name inside his shirt so that if it's taken by mistake, the person knows who to return it to ? In the meantime, tell your son he has to pay for the replacement shirt.

My DW has been complaining about this for the last 2 years. My son will either bring back other boys' t-shirts, shirts, ties, extra text books, worksheets, calculators, etc. A check with other parents and it since to be very normal. The boys will be able to sort out themselves after sometime but there are cases where they cannot get back their own stuff. My DW has the same thoughts as yours and she get the same feedback as yours from my DS. My DS told me that their schedule is quite pack and have to ensure they have to be fast to maximise their time to learn more. sigh...
