In Tien hsia they are still learning hypy as Tien hsia claimed that they follow the moe syllabus closely. I am not sure if at the end of all hypy module, they will get a booklet of summary

Belvia was given the booklet when she attended K2 in Berries.

Now she continued with P1 at Berries, so I used the same booklet to guide her.

I have heard rave reviews about berries but unfortunately the centre is too far and inconvenient for me so chose Tien hsia. By the way, are the teachers from mainland china and do they have a slang that’s difficult to understand? Rae tine hsia teacher is super slangy and fierce, I am worried this might kill off any remaining interest in Chinese that the kids have

Most teachers in Berries (woodlands) r native speakers. & no, their mandarins r not slangy. At least for bel’s teacher. Her teacher has accurate pronunciation.

Can Rae understand what the teacher say in class? Since u mentioned her accent is slangy. Seriously teacher do plays a part in conducting a class. If a child has difficulty in understanding, he/she will totally shut off.

If you are not comforable with the teacher in TH, perhaps you should consider other alternatives?

For Bel, she started late (term 4 of K1), so she is still struggling to understand because she has a weak foundation in Mandarin. And fortunate for her, she has been taught by the same teacher since K1 till now. So the teacher understands her pattern more or less. And as a parent, we reinforce her after every class during the weekdays so that she can catch up with her peers in class.

Because of this, I let my boy attended Berries from N2 to build up his foundation in Mandarin. And I am fortunate that he can recognise Chinese characters and not depending on HYPY.

                Article came out today.

                http://sg.yfittopostblog.com/2011/01/19/mother-tongue-teaching-to-be-more-interactive-moe/

                Quote from Article:
\"By studying the experiences of Australia, China, India, Malaysia and the United States, the committee came to the conclusion that learning is most effective when students learn in an “active and interactive” manner using real-life settings.\"
\"The committee also recommended that computer-aided writing be allowed in some secondary school exams, but not in primary schools, where script writing will still be taught. The objective is to ensure that all students are able to learn their mother tongue language at a high level as they can.\"

\"Active & interactive\" doesn't it mean reading, writing, speak, listen? It's interaction in these aspects with teachers. Isn't that how kids learn? Make it fun, interactive so they will ask questions & learn at the same time.

I asked my girl whether there is malay or indian in her class. She shrug her shoulder. So i asked her r there any dark skin pupils in her class, she said yes....

                        Perhaps she dunno.... Haha

One mummy from gracious shared that the class has got a lot of malay & indian.

I remember orientation that time, I see the list most of it are Chinese Name and more girls than boys.
