[quote=\"allamanda\"]my girl is posted to Nanyang, I am also considering whether to transfer my son to nanyang, but the current sch is more suitable for him as he is very weak in chinese.

This is hearsay, is it true that more boys than girls are selected for GEP? One GEP school has only 4 girls in a class and the rest are boys. Anything to do with nurturing future political leaders?

Happy Mama:
Thanks for sharing, Happy Mama. Agree wholeheartedly with your comments above. I make it a point to tell and show my small one everyday that she is loved to bits by her mommy. She has also been taught from a very young age to \"Be the best that I can be\". So, :goodpost:As parents, I feel that we can help 'ease' the school pressure by being our kids' cheerleaders and encouragers. Think it will make a world of difference to our children if we parents are able to send them a message that they are loved as they are rather than what they can do or achieve.
My DH and I have often shared with our kids that they don't have to be the best but they must do their best in whatever task they have been given. Once it is established that their best effort has been put in, we will accept whatever result is, good or bad. Parent's acceptance and approval has significant impact in our kids' lives.: -
Anyone has 2011 GEP screening test date?
-
I think the school will address a letter to parents in early March to inform and encourage parents to allow their children to go for the screening test, which will be held sometime in Aug or Sep (forgotten already) and students who passed this round will go for the selection test in Oct.

That is what I heard & believed too, especially after I have spoken to my sis-in-law.
Maybe some GEP mums can share on how many boys & girls are there in their children's classes. -
During my 2 kids' GEP time in 2009 & 2010, in both years, only ~10 kids cleared round 1 and proceed on. Of these 10 kids, ~7 are boys. So based on the ratio, chances are there will be more boys
Out of these 20 kids, only 1 BOY went into GEP. In addition, there is this High Ability Programme (HAP) which I believe is for those who did not get into GEP but did well enough in the selection test (2nd tier?). As far as I know, about 5 boys and 1 girl are in the HAP. Again, more BOYS. -

I think for some schools, bus-loads of p3s go for the 2nd round of the selection tests, altho' I'm not sure how many girls/boys.During my 2 kids' GEP time in 2009 & 2010, in both years, only ~10 kids cleared round 1 and proceed on. Yes, have seen such school. It was reported in one of the thread that in the screening test of 2009, RGPS has 108 pupils clear round 1. It is not surprise that a lot of students with good academic result passed the screening phase and got into round 2. They even tell you for Maths area and primeter are not included. Round 2 is the actually selection phase for GEP.

Don't be surprise that some GEP candidates are the above average type performers in school examination but you know they are \"different\" in thinking ability and their maturity is above the average kid.
