Henry Park Primary
-
Hello Morinosuke, Sun_2010 and Cody,
I'm sorry for the late reply.
I did not put my boy in any CCA as we do not stay near Henry Park and I would like him to get used to his P1 life first.
However, he attends swimming lessons and goes for piano on weekends. These are his CCAs currently.
How are all your children coping with P1 studies so far?
Mine just had his Ting Xie yesterday.
Will you all be going for the first LJ? I intend to join them on 31 May. Any of you also going as parent volunteer?
I also hope the part on starting at 8.30 am next year is going to be true. -
Hi, Parents.
Our eldest child will be in P1 in 2012. Our choice for now is HPPS.
We know that HPPS will operate from former RJC compound for 1.5 years starting 2012. Nevertheless, would like to check how you drop and pick up your kids everyday given that the road along the entrance is 2-way single-lane.
Also, is it necessary to get the kids handphone? Think they canโt use it during lessons, correct?
Thanks in advance. -

Is anybody able to confirm whether school will indeed start at 8.30 am next year? How about thereafter, when the school moves back to the current premises from the former RJC? I wonder whether it will continue the 8.30 am starting time then : )
I also hope the part on starting at 8.30 am next year is going to be true.
How do you parents find the principal? -
Hi sun,
We signed up for golf which starts today incidentally.
So single session is confirmed! Just as well cos I prefer my son to be in am session. He naturally wakes up at 7am daily!
I only hope that the kids can return home to eat lunch rather than canteen food. My P1 boy will certainly NOT feed himself a proper lunch.
While on this issue, may I pls seek advice. What do boys wear for PE?
I pack the gym shorts for him but he tells me that he doesn't ever wear it.
The girls in his class change out but the boys don't.
I'm no wondering ... Is the gym shorts for gym only?
Or is there another PE shorts that I didn't buy?
Pls help!Sun_2010:
Hi Cody,
The part about single session from P1 to P6 is confirmed.
Which CCA did your son get join under HPPA? Mine has joined squash.cody:
but school only starts at 8.30am.
Hope the this part about timing is also true.
I do feel the changes in Henry park are good, the stress levels compared to other schools is lesser. -
Hi kit,
I didn't sign up for the school's CCA for the same reasons! Better to let him get used to schooling first. But I was Abit surprised that CCA is not compulsory now. Back in my days, each pupil needed at least 1 eca! Time to catch up w the current system now.
What is LJ? Leaning Journey?
My son's class is visiting the zoo on Feb1, and I have signed up as a parent volunteer to accompany them.
Prinicipal wise... Er I have no comments since I have no contact w him other than listening to him speak during orientation and on the first day of school.kit:

Pick up and drop off is a nightmare.
At the current compound, cars line up single file at the drive way in front of the general office. The nightmare is when some parents LEAVE their car, lock up and walk off to fetch their kids.
I witnessed this several times, and almost always there will be at least 1 kid who is dismissed slightly later. Hence causing a congestion since the car is stationery and there is no way to get around that car!
The road outside the school is equally congested. Cars line up on both sides, making it a narrow lane passable to 2-way traffic but if a big vehicle like a cement mixer comes along, then everyone will have to give way to let it pass else it will bottle neck again.
The carpark at Henry park apartments across the road is not spared too.
I heard they recently got the residents to sell the place en bloc.
Can't imagine how the congestion when the construction starts!
The carpark compound at RJC is huge, provided that the school doesn't make use of the space for other purposes eg bus bay for school buses.LeeTung:

My understanding is that Use of handphones is not allowed other than at the pick up zone after dismissal.
I didn't get my kid a handphone tho I see some P1s carrying them.
The security guard gets the kids who have been dismissed but parents not arrived yet to sit down at the sheltered porch to wait.LeeTung:

Hi Cody, for boys they need to wear the gym shorts for gym. For PE, they have the choice of either wearing the gym shorts or school shorts. For boys, it is ok to wear gym shorts directly to school - there is no need to pack separately, unless your DS prefers it this way. While on this issue, may I pls seek advice. What do boys wear for PE?
I pack the gym shorts for him but he tells me that he doesn't ever wear it.

My DS loves his gym shorts so he wears them to school 4 times in a week (3 days for PE and 1 day for gym). He wears his school pants only on Friday, when there is no PE or gym.
For the girls, they have a shiny double layer PE shorts, besides the gym shorts. They need to wear their skits when reporting to school.
Hope the information is useful. -

Thanks! That was very informative!
Iโm surprised that gym shorts are accepted thru out the day since itโs not mentioned anywhere in the school rules.
Is 4 times a week PE the norm for the older kids too?
I thot it was for the P1s only but if it holds true for P1-6, thatโd be good.
More exercise ie time away from books is great! -
Hi cody, sorry to disappoint but 4 times a week PE is not the norm for older kids
For Pri 1 and 2, there are 3 PE lessons (each one period) and one period of gym.
For Pri 3 onwards, gym is no longer a compulsory programme that is weaved into the time table. Can't remember the number of PE lessons for P3 and 4. However, at P5 and 6, there is only 2 periods of PE in a week and these 2 periods are together (double periods).cody:
