      numericrhapsodies:
      hello all,

i am a twelve year old child, that has scored 255 for her PSLE examination.
i have not bothered to read the pages written before this, but i have already enrolled myself into the mentioned school, and there's a 99.9% i am getting in, as firstly, i come from the \"next door\", so my cut off point is ridiculously low, and that, obviously, my score is high enough to get me in even if i didn't have that unfair advantage.
i am going to the aforementioned school because of the \"star plus\" programme.
after reading the first two pages of this forum discussion, i am disturbed, and severely perturbed as i absolutely do not want myself to be studying in such a negative, suffocating, and moral-lacking environment.
However, i believe, and hope with all my heart that what the parents have said has been changed, as i fear for myself intensely as to what trials i will be forced to face the coming year.
the primary (and pretty much only) reason why i am going to CHIJ TP secondary is because of the \"star plus\" programme. this program is tailored to the higher standard requests and requirements of supposedly smarter students, by having higher difficulty and more interesting, hands on projects and assignments.
and the best part is you get to travel abroad.
      which i really fancy.
      moving on....
i plan to switch schools to hwa chong during sec 3. yes, to take the IP program.
so i am actually using \"next door\" as a sort of \"warm-up\" point. the star plus is only available during sec 1 and sec 2, so i'll be gone by the third year.
      Hi

Don't be disturbed by all these comments about the school. To be honest with you, all schools, be it all girls or mixed secondary schools will always have problems with discipline - even if they are the best in the nation. I have nephews, nieces, kids of friends in some of the best schools here - St.Nick's, SCGS, Catholic High, RI, ACS etc... and they all tell me stories of students with problems, some are shocking and are never made known.

As long as the school is a pretty good school, you are happy with it, have great friends and like the environment...everything else is secondary. I for one, believe that an education is not all about grades and academic excellence. We are not computers, we are emotional beings. In the real world, and most working adults will tell you this, its all about personality, hard work and who you know, that gets you ahead - unless if its a government organisation, which I hear is changing as well. The paper qualification is just a step into the door and what you do on the other side of that door is up to you really. I know of scholars from top schools who amount to nothing and people with polytechnic diplomas who excel in their careers. Having high IQ is good but having good EQ is even more important. I think a holistic school environment that puts emphasis on the human spirit and spiritual growth is something you cant put a price to or a school to, otherwise, we will all be robots in the future.

I send my daughter to IJ not because of academic reasons, if I wanted that I would have opted for RGPS or MGS, which we qualify for as well, one for distance and the other for affiliation. I send her there because I want her to have more than just a academic education - I wanted a well rounded education for her.

Thank you for your honest opinion of the school.
My daughter is in IJ TP because I am an old girl. If hubby & I wanted a school for its academic push, we would have opted to put her in same school as older child, which is just 5 min walk away...but no, hubby wants her to attend IJ TP for its affiliation as well as the pride & joy of seeing her wearing the pinafore.
I've read several positive comments about IJ TP primary and we are proud to see our petite daughter happy in school.

Its been 3 weeks since I’ve joined this school.

I do not mean to offend you, quintessential mom, But I find your opinions very biased.
In these 3 weeks, I have spotted nothing of what you said. I’m not joking. Maybe one or two a-wee-bit too low belts, but nothing else.
Our level is quite diligent, and our teachers are drastically far from what you have said.
Sure, there may be the "trends", with the current being this ridiculously large clutch purse that everyone seems to be carrying a variation of.
But Its been great! They’re quite strict. The IJ spirit is everywhere too, promoting unity.
I would just like to ask, where have you heard all of this from?
Perhaps you could say, that because I am in one of average or above classes, I do not get exposed to the bane of society you say these girls commit. But I strongly believe, that our girls are not bad.
Like one user said, Every school has its own black sheep. There is no way to stop it. We can only look at the bright side, and hope in the future.

Glad you have verified the truth for yourself. My eldest daughter is also from IJ Primary now in sec 3 express doing triple science. She is a guide for the last 3 years. The IJ spirit is always strong and IJ Sec has been doing very well in \"O\" level, every year there is a 2 or 3 top girls among in S'pore GCE 'O\" level cohort. :celebrate:

              Hi numericrhapsodies,

There are always black sheep in every place. That is something no one can anything.

I have 2 kids - son is in a co-ed school while gal is in IJ P1.
My daughter is wearing shorts under her pinafore everyday…she tells me her classmates lift up her pinafore bcos they show each each other the colour of her shorts.

I am glad that you are enjoying school and i hope that it will be an enriching experience for you! No offense taken  We are all entitled to our own opinions. I have just shared my personal experience (and also a couple of other parents experiences too) in this forum and some may agree or disagree with it. The idea is to exchange experiences good and bad for the benefit of all. Well, in my opinion 3 weeks is a short time to arrive at any decision. Maybe updated us after say 6 months or a year and let us know if you feel the same way. That said. I hope that you still feel good about the school 😄 Wishing you all the best! 😎

Met up with a close relative who is a VP in a secondary school. When I mention that our daughter will most likely move up to IJ (TP) Sec (she’s currently at IJ (TP) Primary), he said oh that’s a good school. They have done well for their O levels, value add & Regina is a good Principal. You should let your daughter move up to the secondary school. I feel so assured after that cos I too have been very disturbed after reading some very negative comments here.

                    Hi Honey,
Thanks for the info. I was worried after reading the negative comments about the sec side. Though my gal is only in P1, I can now rest assure that IJ Sec TP is not bad after all.

For info - My older DD from CHIJ Pri, now in Sec 3 Express with 2 classes doing triple sciences. Last year 2010 GCE 'O' level, one girl with 9 'A1\" among top girls in 'O' level cohort. Incidentally, the top Malay girl and top Eurasian girl also from CHIJ Sec (Toa Payoh) on the academic side of thing. :celebrate:

                        Hi matadorepy,

Although IJ TP Pri won an award for ‘Good Progress’, IJ Sec is also doing a good job producing fantastic results and should be recognized by MOE too. So with all the fantastic results, much work and effort will be pumped in.
