Hi peterch, oh I see... I get what you mean. Just like my camera where I bought separate 18-200 zoom lens for better closer shots... You seem to be a Nikon fan coz you mentioned models like D5000, D700 etc šŸ˜‰

By the way :offtopic: your new rabbit avatar is very cute. Matches 25hourmaid's white bunny. Haha.. šŸ˜‰

happy mamma, do you find the 18-200 lens rather bulky and heavy?

          Happy Mama:
For lightweight point of concern, I would recommend Panasonic GF2 with interchangeable lens. šŸ˜„

The picture could be comparable to DSLR.

Please note, if you buy DSLR, please buy with one has focus motor on the body, so you would save troubles later if you want to upgrade/buy a premium lens šŸ˜„

Hi peterch, I thought almost all DSLRs focus mechanism is found on the body, where you can inter-change the lens... or am I wrong? :?

Do you mind sharing with me some of the brands/models that you know of?

The motor or focus servo is not found in entry model. Let's say Nikon 3100 could have auto focus works on AFS lens but not AF lens šŸ˜„
But for higher level (more expensive ones :D) such as D5000 or the new D700, the motor is on the body, so AF lenses work on it.
Yeah, got my D60, and it is good if you are using it as a beginner DSLR and just want to take nice photos with basic lenses, but when you want to progress beyond that, you find lens restrictions. Even though they are coming out with more AFS lenses nowadays, the price is a put off. Cheap body, expensive lenses, I rather it to be the other way round. Am thinking of selling off my D60 now but it's a hassle too. Haiz.

I got the 3-fold lens hence not so bulky but a little heavy.... But DH says the trade off is worth it coz 18-55 is just so insufficient. šŸ˜‰

Yeah, the 18-55 is a little limiting. I’m happy with my 18-105. I figured the 18-200 would be too heavy for me to carry around, especially for holidays.

Yes, 18-105 is very good too. šŸ˜‰ At least you are carrying a lighter \"rock\" in front of you, than me. šŸ˜„ šŸ˜„
