What about Filipino maids? Should they be paid more? Ours is less than a yr and I've increased her pay twice to $420. We also pay for her toiletries and gave her bonus.

Based on yesterday's ST...new Indon maids now command $450 as compared to Filipino at $420. That $30 cannot be saved since Filipino maids will also demand for it.
Can't MOM forget about the levy ? If so, then can give the maids that amt to match with Taiwan and HKG for maids.

Was just talking about this with my friend. Both of us have rather decent maids and we have been paying them above $450 for some time now already. My maid is into her 6th year with us and she really made my life a lot easier. Likewise for my friend. I thank my lucky stars that she has decided to stay on after her contract ends this year. Saves me the headache of hunting for a new maid.

For good maids like these 2, we have no qualms paying them more. But for new maids if the salary is going to keep going up, then for me, it will eventually make more sense to just get part time help especially now that the kids are older and can assume some responsibilities around the house.

You are lucky...honestly if I have a decent maid whom I can rely upon, I am willing to pay her $450. The one maid who can give me that feeling I can depend on only worked 1 1/2 years bcos she was already 27 then...old by Indon standard. Getting new maid is like playing tikam tikam.

I think it is fair to pay the good indo maid the good pay if she is good

I object to the illogical comparison to their pay in HK or Taiwan because it is wrong to compare with different legal environment, a totally different working and living environment, without so much legal protection for the maid as in Singapore

It is all supply and demand.

If you feel salary increase is not justified, then don't employ lor.
$70 increase is quite substantial especially for young couples and those with lower income.

Thats why they say why young couple dont wanna have kids šŸ˜ž

If I am young, newly married and working, I have to factor in transportation, lunch, paying $450 for maid salary + misc. How to afford a child ? Haven't included levy, doctor checkup, food and accomodation. As good as working for free.

yes exactly!! cannot increase for the new maid lor.. for experience can understand also the salary should be between employer and the maid[/quote]Experience is subjective...maid's definition of experience could be that she has seen microwave oven, washing machine etc but every household works differently. Even cooking is different.

Why is the maid's salary increasing every year but not ours ? 😢

I really do not agree on increasing so much for Indonesia maid... You know when they first come to Singapore, they don't know English, don't know how to operate electronic device, don't know how to do housework, etc... they do not worth the increase. When we work in a company, we can demand for high salary if we have the skill and are knowledgeable that worth the value, but if we don't have experienced skill or just graduated, we can't ask for more too... isn't this should be the same for Indonesia Maid? They are so ignorant and should not be comparing themselves to Philippines maid. And about high salary in HongKong and Taiwan, which I think it's unfair comparison. Many Indonesia maid go to those countries after they gain experience and learn English in Singapore then they go to HongKong Taiwan... My previous two Indo maids also mentioned their plan is to go Taiwan/HongKong after they gain experience in singapore!!!
