Preparing kids for P5 in 2011
-
My boy is in P5 this year as well. Reading all the posts here is quite scary. I think we should be careful with our planning and do not burn out the kids. P5 is beginning stage of PSLE preparation but PSLE is not the end of the education journey. For me, I make sure that there is time for sports and some free time to do his own stuff every week. I think sometimes it is the quality of time spent on studies and not just quantity.

I am very scared and stressed reading this thread. My ds is P5 this year. Since school reopened, he has been very relaxed. Homework also not kan cheong. After nagging him to complete his homework, he picks up his story book and read. School just started, very difficult to get him to do any assessment books outside of school work. I also anticipate a really hectic year ahead. Worried if we (both son and parents) can cope with the stress and tight schedule. :nailbite:

Hi ksme/jesschan,
Son had homework starting from yesterday...he told me 'chicken feed' not bcos it is easy, but it's just few pages although 3 subjects. I am relieved he is positive
.
Getting him to finish up the rest of his P4 Cloze practice within these few days. I anticipate a hectic year ahead, esp since his supplementary lessons will start in Week 3...so go easy those 2 days after school.
I am trying not to burn myself out in January...still have many months ahead in 2011 and tough year in 2012. -
Hi, anyone using math book/assessment book called Noteworthy Math? (Sorry if I type wrongly)
My son in P5 was told to buy this book but dunno where to buy. Could not find at Popular.
Thanks in advance. Regards -
My son said his teacher have ordered and paid for them first…My Pals Are Here Maths Homework A/B books. Bought this title every year…included in booklist. That’s where his 12 pages of Maths homework came from.

@peterch, re: "Noteworthy Math"
Ask him to check at the school bookshop, they should know. Ds’s school is not using but I think Tao Nan is using. -
I remember the advice which mummies who have gone through P5 gave me :Maths is a killer. In fact, not only is Maths a killer but it is another level deeper for all subjects. English is tougher too, for OE comprehension as well as Synthesis & Transformation. To encourage and motivate my boy, I try to accompany him when I set English for him.
Lots of motivation and encouragement bcos I do find it tougher too…hard to describe but definitely it’s taking up more time analyzing and understanding. -

Last year we had spent a lot of time working in Maths and again this year. The most active forum for subject until now is still the Maths.I remember the advice which mummies who have gone through P5 gave me :Maths is a killer. I can sit in the same room when hubby teaches son Maths but totally out of the loop. Hubby bought son one calculator which has 4 lines to do simultaneous equations etc etc. Give up. :stupid:
