Hello everyone, I am back and wow! the page is now 6xx plus really many active moms & dads here.To add on to what E3 has just shared. Personally I feel that P did not really 'train' PHPPS for GEP. If she did, I believed more students would be selected. I found out that NYPS starts so called 'GEP' training in P3. Some selected P3 students are put into 'GEP' prog & the class size is keep small about 25 unlike PHPPS expand to 40+ for top classes., so you see, they can achieve to have 50 selected gep stds. For math, you have to expose your kid to different types of Math like IQ, OLP math, ICAS papers topics besides the mainstream topics before she sit for the GEP screening test else your kid will be at a disadvantage and might be demoralised. Anyway, a happy chinese new year to everyone and I am surely glad that I don't have to send my DD to school for those few days. (the horrible traffic jam every morning to NYPS is really a very stressful one! up to till now, still trying out different route)[/quote]Welcome back. Hope you dd is enjoying the program in NYPS.

Just kidding... She'll most likely still go for the 1st screening test and God-willing, go for the second. Decision comes after that. If I am the P, I will not train my students too intensively from P1 - P3, specifically for GEP. Instead, train them AFTER P3, like offering the Thinkers Today, Leaders Tomorrow programme, so that on one hand, you develop many excellent students for PSLE, on the other hand, you keep the brains. One year makes a big difference in terms of maturity. My thinking is a little warped, I know, that's why I will probably make a lousy P. Just my humble opinions. -

Definitely timed. I think generally screening test should be able to finsih. But Speed is important for Selection TestIJJ:

Hi comfy, sorry to intrude in your conversation. I'm wondering where you get the information, cos' my dd and her friends are in P3 in NYPS, but we never hear anything about the special \"GEP\" prog of class size about 25. Every P3 class in NYPS is at least 32 and more. In fact, the high ability classes have the most students (40 +- 2) leh. Also, one friend was kinda worried that her dd was in the \"low ability\" class cos' there is only about 32 students in the class...

Unfortunately, My Gal Did Not Join in the Course due to Clashes in the Schedule with Her Other CCA Activities ....
Did your dd take it up at P4? Do you mind sharing what was done during the lessons? My understanding from a parent (now dd's P6, also a prefect) that her dd was offered due to her GEP screening test's performance. She was in Charity 4, Charity 5... It is also stated in the Annual (pages 35 and 38 ) that only about 20 over kids or top 5% were offered and they were selected based on their performance in GEP screening test.Funx3:

But She's Offered to Do the Above Prog, Probably Becoz She's a Prefect .... (All Students in Some Sort of Leadership Role like Class Monitors, Sheriffs, etc R Offered) ....
The Student Leadership Training Course was the one offered to all student leaders from P3 onwards.
I could be mistaken, afterall you are the Senior PH parent here.
