My child is in Year 5 this year.

For what I know, for those students who top in Biology, Physics, Chemistry & Maths & those who top in the level, they do not have any tuition.

These students read up alot by themselves and out perform those who only study lecture notes.

I believe they only use the shorten form of the name NUS High School of Maths and Science. I vividlly remember they once use the long name on the school track and field sport complex and the main entrance to school.

Any parents here can shared experience on the Japanese Language offered in NUSHS?

A major difference here is that Students have to pay $100 monthly and the Language centre is actually conducted ny NUS Langauage Dept.

Is it better than the model by MOELC (teachers , curriculum wise ) which is free

The MOELC model gear towards G.C.E ā€˜O’ level whereas NUSH for Japanese is JLPT

How do the students fared in this 3rd Language in NUSHS so far, drop out rate etc.

Kindly shared this within the NUSHS. Thanks.

PIONEER BATCH AT NUS HIGH SCHOOL
                NUS High's 1st graduates
                By Jennani Durai

THEY were among the top pupils of their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and they chose to take a chance with a brand-new school.

The pioneer batch of 173 students who had been through the full six-year programme at NUS High School of Mathematics and Science graduated on Monday.

Students like valedictorian Donovan Loh say that while it had been hard deciding between NUS High School and other established top schools, they made the right choice.

'I had some fear that the school was so new, but I was certain enough about NUS High School that I applied through Direct School Admission and didn't apply anywhere else,' said Donovan, 18, a former Pasir Ris Primary School student who obtained a PSLE aggregate score of 270. He graduated on Tuesday with High Distinction and is hoping for a Ministry of Education teaching scholarship to study biology in Imperial College.

More top universities have recognised the unique NUS High School diploma, including Oxford University, Cambridge University, Harvard University and Stanford University, said principal Dr Hang Kim Hoo.

He said: 'There were many challenges that had to be overcome before we arrived at where we are today. When the school just started, the first bold step had to be taken to move away from the tried-and-tested route of the 'O' and 'A' level examinations.'

But I thought the very first batch graduate in 2008 with 88 students. Correct me if I am wrong ? :?

may be that batch did not start with sec 1, started with sec 3

if their graduates are not highly valued, then the school is a failure, having targeted and attracted students who are supposedly among the brightest in the land.

Happy Lunar New Year everyone !

2 batches were admitted in 2005 - one batch of 88 students was taken in at Year 3 and graduated in 2008 and another batch was taken in at Year 1 and went through the entire 6 years of NUSH programme and graduated in 2010. So when NUSH started in 2005, there were only 2 levels - Year 1 and Year 3.

OIC. So by now they would have gained ample experience from these pioneer batches to remake /revamp their curriculum for the respective foundation/advance/specialisation years. Thanks.
