      Can give $5 angbao. This is especially so for hokkien. cos 5 is wu in hokkien means have. so 5 means you have good fortune.

      Wu is in chinese lah, but it should mean \"no more\"
      5 in hokkien should be \"ghaw\"

        Wu = 5 = 无

        But if you say wu wu in hokkien, its 有…

        anyway, this is what the people who give $5 angpow told me… My kids got a few $5 angbows from Malaysia this year.

        For us here, we usually give even nos.

          Hong Kongers and some traditonal cantonese here will give two angpows to one kid. They believe everything must be in even, cheng shuan cheng dui

          No lei, I was taught by my granny that we cantonese give 2 cos it represents one from the husband and the other from the wife. The amount in each packet must be even. If one becomes a widow or widower, then give one. DH family is Hokkien and they give only 1 so I combine the amount and give 1 instead of 2 packets.

          This is what my friend's old grandmother told us one year when we went to her place in Hong Kong. She is an widow, we still got two angbows from her.

          Yah, Hokkien and most other dialects give only one angpows. later i go ask my chinese colleagues and customers to see if there's any difference in Taiwan and China

                      We only one way. Guess I will give $20 also. My in-laws were suggesting $10-$20 too but told me that was during their time. Give and take inflation, $20 should be just nice ba. 🙂
