      Hi!

I think you have this impression that all schools in central area are very popular because there are not that many schools in this area in the first place?
Correction on my part: Think it's more like overdemand and undersupply in good schools that are in this area.

At least it happened to the schools that I would have chosen as my first choice.
      Luanee:
Just realised that the total no. of vacancies this year has dropped drastically from 46,740 last year to 41,670 this year. Almost all the areas are affected, except for the 8 schools in Toa Payoh which still keep the same no. of vacancies as last year.
Wa! That's either a reflection of declining birth rate or they are trying to distribute the students more evenly by forcing parents to register into the less popular schools.

2003's birthrate was 37,485 compared to 2002's 40,760. Actually they didnt reduce the number from most of the more popular schools, except for a few.

Oh, I have a friend whose child is in River Valley Primary School! In fact, I am giving that child Chinese tuition!

          Hi Gin!

Then, it makes finding out more information about the school easier for you! πŸ˜‰

Agreed with you that Queenstown, Bukit Merah & Central have quite limited primary schools to select as compare to those big towns like Woodlands, Sengkang where at least many schools to select.

It seem not many people had been talking about QPS & NTPS?? Do not have any pros & cons on these 2 schools?

Ya lor... the [Queenstown] Schools discussion section is not even as hot/fast as [Bukit Merah] Schools.

Actually I think maybe the housing at Queenstown is not as matured as those in Bukit Merah area. The houses here are really quite new due to SERs.

Hehe... There was a parent whose boy is at QPS, and she regretting sending her boy there. Desperately to pull him out. Plus my feel about QPS has never been good.

I know a parent whose 2 boys are there, very good review. Saying that the teachers are highly responsive to the parents' enquiries and will not hesitate to sms/call her when her boys did not hand-in H/W or are not behaving very well in school.

QPS & NTPS maybe have lost it glory days when they were in like 1970’s to 1990’s that why not many people had been talking about. The only good one is FMPS where have reach a saturation point like balloting at 1Km in Phase 2C.
Maybe in popular primary school to have a good teacher really depends on luck.

                    Hi QMS,

Sadly, according to my girlfriend, she is desperate to get her son out from RVPS! Apparently, there isn't much communication between school and parents (no answers to questions, even from the general office) and not much love for kids... work comes first. A little girl, from P1, had to wet pinafore trying to keep her pee in during exams.

My friend had heard some negative things about the school before putting her son in there, but her husband thought it would be ok. So, their son ended up in RVPS.

Of course, my friend did say that I should personally go to the school and have a look see.

Well, I think I better look elsewhere. 😞

                      Hi Gin!

You will find good and not so good teachers EVERYWHERE. Hence, it may be a bit extreme to base your decision on just one case. There is no guarantee that the issues you heard from your friend will not happen in other schools. Unless you know ALL the teachers in the school and how good or bad they are, it’s a stab in the dark regardless which school you go to.

Like your friend, I suggest you make a trip to the school and see for yourself. However, this is just my suggestion.
