are you also known as PSLEMom here ?But still it is Girl Guides that my DD desires to join. We submitted appeal but was given a firm no. The HOD of CCA does not want to open door to appeal at this time as otherwise more appeals will come. We are told to only appeal after 6 mths trial. Does anyone know if the CCA points gain by DD for the 6 mths in dance will be transferable to CCA Girl Guides?
It is not so nice to mention the school, all I can say is in Sengkang. -
Are students who are reserves on the school team given the same recognition as the full-fledged team members as far as LEAPS points, Colours Awards etc are concerned. If the school team wins a gold medal for instance, would the reserve also be given the gold medal and be recognized as having been part of the team that won the medal in his CCA points, given colours awards etc?
For eg Swimming relay, there are 4 in the quartet and 1 reserve. is the reserve given the same recognition as the quartet? -

Your dd may have done very well for the dance auditions and the CCA wants her so they 'grab' her regardless of her preference. There have been cases whereby a girl auditioned for International Dance but was given Indian Dance because the Indian dance teacher liked her. She didn't even audition for Indian dance. Fortunately the girl grew to like Indian dance.
Yes, my DD's CCA in Pri is Dance. And yes she did well during dance audition (her name was taken down during audition). I am not sure if there was interview/audition for Girl Guides as well. She has no experience in GG. Does anyone know if they also select strictly for UG like GG?
Thanks for your info. It is kind of unreasonable if they don't allow appeal. My girl posted to dance and was told that the instructor is very fierce and some could not take it and cried. This kind of environment will kill the interest. Anyway we don't care what the school say and just submit in our appeal and see what is the outcome. If fail we will try again 6 mths later.Sec1_mom:

My girl school only accept appeal if not the first 3 choices. -
So this is why your dd got into Dance. She has experience and also did well for the audition. UG does not have any trial, not many students are interested, there is no need for any experience, during the sec 1 orientation, the seniors in the UG were trying so hard to โsellโ their cca. Iโm actually v worried my dd will be thrown into UG. For her sch, it is compulsory to choose 2 UG out of the 6 choices.

Hi Sall, thank you for your reply. Now I feel better knowing that UG is less popular and my DD was selected for Dance based on her good performance during audition. Will let her try Dance for 6 mths and who knows she may grow to like it very much and refuse to change after 6 mths. Ok, be positive!

Is the trophy for a non-SYF/nationals kind of competition? Maybe schools only acknowledge winners in nationals for sports and SYF for performing arts.
so sorri Jtoh for the late reply, am not following this thread,Augmum:
I have just joined this forum and read this thread... So i understand that to get minus 2 points off for 'o' levels my son has to get at least 20 points through the LEAPS system. But is there a preferred CCA my son should join to ensure he gets the points from participation & achievement (Representation, Accomplishment, Attainment)? Or he can join any CCA he wants to? I am asking this because i am rather doubtful about his CCA choice, He is is Maris Stella High and he wants to join the English Literature Society(ELS) ELS does debate & scrabble (YES THE BOARD GAME xD), If lets say he wins the scrabble competition will he gets the Achievement points? Thanks a lot

for that, yr son has to ask the teacher-in-charge.
not all competitions will etitled u to have some points.
last yr, my gal (in another sch) took part in a few CCA' scompetitions,
even with winning of trophy, the teacher-in-charge did not give any additional point for it

just happen today, am free to browse thru it again. (prob, u 're also not following it now)
anyway, the competition that my gal's team participated is a national kinda of comptetion.
just that there are many categories and happen that cat. is not awarded for points  -
Thanks Augmum. I wonder how the school determines which are the point-awarding competitions.

my kid has gotten in a cca which only require training for 3.5hr each week. And now he wants to switch to track and field cca which require to practice three times a weekโฆ The kisโs time management is bad so i am very reluctant to say okโฆ

Hi Herbie, it's alr the end of term 1, is he still allowed to switch CCA? For less demanding cca, pts given will be much less too. For sports cca, if the team wins, then maybe more pts? I'm surprised he needs to spend only 3.5 hr a wk, so relaxed.......
