There are both good and bad points to having a ridiculously hard paper.
If it’s too easy, It becomes too difficult to separate those who are really geniuses, from the average.
But if it is too hard, average students are stumped on virtually every question, and are left with a terrible score.
Haha, I still remember the Jim an Ken question. Tried it in P5, took me 15 minutes to solve. It really is all up to whether or not, you study well enough. If you drill your child hard enough, He or she will definitely be able to conquer Jim and Ken with ease.
Rewards come with hard work. Put in enough effort, and you don’t need to worry about anything else. -

The model methoid is a pain. just use ratio and basic algebra and there u hv it. I was in P6 last year and i solved that question in 4 minutes munching on popcorn. I believe MOE has been monitoring the "intelligence" level of each cohort. The degree of difficulty will be set according to their analysis. For example, with such easy papers last year, it is surprising to find the COP of the top schools to be so low. In other years with easy papers, the COP of the top schools had been way above 260s (i.e. top 5% all over 260s). I wonder what the COP of the top schools would be like, had last year’s papers been very difficult.

There are no cpommon exams for each cohort except PSLE so how will they gauge ? Secondly we know that averages do not tell the whole story...i dont think MOE will go by average performance. -

The GEP test at P3 is definitely the first data collection point. Check the prelim papers of P5 carefully, you might notice many similar questions - some schools even use same numbers and scenarios. Can't help believing that a set of questions have been given to schools to chose from when setting questions.
