How to improve Chinese Composition?

好词好句, 开头，结尾，成语...these are the components to spice up the 作文...oh yes, add in a little conversation, so that it won't be so stale.

The only way to improve is by reading as many story books as possible. In order to write good composition by P3, kids must be reading Chinese novels like the 笑猫日记 series, and other books of similar length.

Target to let your child read one Chinese novel of at least 70000 words every week. This is definitely possible because many kids can read English books at a much faster rate than that.

It is only when a child has read enough, then he can write very well. If a child does not read well, sending to creative writing classes, or memorizing model Chinese compositions, are all going to be useless.

If your child does not like to read Chinese books, sit with him everyday, ask him to read every word out loud, and help him when he does not know any word. This is the best way to motivate him. If you can do this every day, you will see improvement within a year.

i agree wif u. reading is how my presch pick up chinese. just that wf 3 kids i m getting less disciplined nowadays. got to buck up again.

where do u usu get ch novels? if i buy, no space to keep cos got lots of bks already. library ones usu from china, small font and very wordy.

I bought all my Chinese books from http://www.dangdang.com, an online bookshop in China.

dangdang has a huge collection of wonderful books for pre-school kids. Check out my blog for the books that I bought from dangdang :

The books in the age 2 to 6 group have lots of pictures, and not too wordy.
The books in the groups age 6 and above are wordy, this is because kids need to read that many words in order to write good compositions

Read and read and read. But when reading u must make sure ur children understands the words and learn them in the process.

I'd borrowed several of chinese composition books from library for past few mnths and jotted down alot of interesting sentences with idioms on an exercise book. Make sure my kids memorise a few of them per day so that they know how to write a proper composition. Hopefully it helps.
