Hi dorisp,

My kids are in Christian preschool, now they are also in religious schools...no prob with that since I have been through that stage b4. It didn't strike me that my gal can qualify under phase 2A until a good friend told me to try. Hubby & I were very worried bcos we stayed out of 2km.
      Hi janet,

Coincidently, my only boy is also in a Christian kindergarten now. šŸ˜„

Fate shall decide which primary school he goes later. We shall see. šŸ˜Ž Whichever it is, it would be my DH and my best effort. It would ultimately be a school we think is good enough and is available. :celebrate:
..... I was told a particular popular neighbourhood pri sch in the east required a min of 100 PV hrs and some parents even clocked in 600 hrs! ....

i do believe you have been misled.

Really? That was what the admin staff in the school said when enquiries were made abt being a PV.
Which school ?

Of course I understand that anyone can be PV - I am just questioning if it is logical to ask professionals to do silly duties like lollipop (wo)man or gardening. And u will be surprised at how many people are earning at least $100 p/hr - my chiropractor charges me $75 for 5 - 10 mins of adjustment and how many patients do u think he sees in an hour. Singapore is moving towards a knowledge based economy isn't it?

And, pls - don't give me the \"want to understand the culture of the school, have a feel of the school to gauge if they like the environment b4 registering their kids there\" - that's bs - most parents have already 'decided' on the schools when they offer their services as PV.
If you find it silly, then don't volunteer šŸ˜‰

Well, you want to have chance to put your child in that school or not?!

There certainly are professionals doing lollipop duties. How are they going to charge-out S$100/hr at 6.30am-7.30am in the morning anyway. And there are other ways. Eg. Lawyers - i have seen them volunteer their legal services and get into the school board and get their child in that way. So, you have to be creative!!!!!

even one wants to volunteer for those silly duties, the school might not accept him/her....you can't equate PV to dollars and cents...it is more than that...

Professionals queue overnight outside popular kindergarten to get their kids a place. Professionals queue overnight outside NAFA to get kids into enrichment class. Professionals offer parents volunteer to school or join grassroots to get kids place in popular school. Let's face it, there are lots of professionals out there doing these.....it's whether you want to do it or not.

As my colleague used to jokingly put it: this is for her future generations - not only her kids will benefit from it, her grandkids and maybe even the great grandkids will benefit :!: and thank her for contributing her services to the school to ensure generations to come will get into popular school :celebrate: I used to jokingly tell her that pray that school will not closed down in future or she will :stupid:

If you are not happy to be a PV, then don't be one. Simple as that. No point doing something which does not equate to your professional status.
BTW, being a PV is not something you want to be and get it.

If those routes for Phase 2B (PV, grassroot & clan) are not suitable, then there is one last shot at P2C. This is the way it is till a new system replaces it. šŸ˜„

In any case, I personally don't see anything wrong for professionals to be doing traffic warden duties. If one sees being selected to do traffic warden duty as laborious and meaningless, then that person should decline doing it. I see traffic wardens as performing a simple but yet critical function and that is to ensure the safefy of our little ones.

Someone quoted a professional earning rate as $100/hr. But let me say this, this amt compared to the safety of our little ones is nothing. The safety of our children to each of us parents here is simply priceless.
