Hi Greenbean,
No Chinese enrichment for ds, coz I find that if a parent dun teach or revise with the child, no amount of enrichment can helps. But that's only my opinion lah.
-
hi laughingcat,
you’re absolutely right !
our current principal is relatively new.
Yes ! she joined around beginning Term 1, last year 2010.
but I like this new Principal.
when I spoke to her - I find her a very practical, down to earth, gentle lady.
I respect her as Principal - who dare to make changes for the benefit of students in the school. She is the one who introduced the new 4 hrs daily curriculum programme to kids at level Nursery, K1 and K2, wef 2011.
for younger pre-nursery kids, she also introduced new change.
she gave these parents a new option to choose – 3 or 4 hrs programme.
normally for term 1, parents with pre-nursery kids will choose 3 hrs initially first. But once their kids settle down well, get used to the warm, friendly, caring school environment, parents can change them slowly over to 4 hrs eventually. No hurry, just take time for your child to get adjusted well.
wef 2011, some other kindergarten also start to introduce > 3 hrs daily kindergarten programme. Some had changed to 3.5 hrs, ie. half an hr more everyday. But to me, half an hour more doesn’t really help much, just my own opinion.
moving forward ahead, seems like … there will be more and more kindergarten slowly switching over to > 3 hrs daily programme. -
Hi greenbean,
I am somewhat amazed by your full knowledge of this school. I didnt even know the principle just joined last yr but I totally agreed with you the principle is nice, down-to-earth person and I chat with her like friends as well as the vice-principle. My girl kept singing chinese songs taught in class to us and auto takes out the chinese books from her mini-library at home. She used to take only english books. Guess this more chinese based school did really help my girl in last than 1 month in school! as we speaks mostly english at home. -
hi jazz,
yes! I agree with you !
though my 3.2 year old daughter (she is a year end child) joined Newton Nursery for only just 1 month, however I was quite amazed as i noticed she picked up a fair amount of chinese vocab pretty fast, rapidly!
yesterday, when I brought her to my sister’s house for cny visiting, my sis commented – how come suddenly first time can hear her sing three chinese cny songs ? furthermore can sing so clearly ? last time I seldom hear her speak much chinese. Her diction / pronunciation in Mandarin is so clear! I can make out the words what she is singing !”
my sister also commented that she is more articulate now, than compared to December last year, where she was more quiet, reserved. My sis asked - how come there is this great, sudden quantum leap in her vocab so fast, from last year Dec to now? (btw, I never teach her how to sing any cny song at home)
So, i asked my girl – who teach you how to sing all these cny songs ?
She replied in mandarin, “Lao si said now is cny festive season. We children must learn how to sing traditional cny songs!”
nowadays at night just before she sleeps, she will open up her small cupboard, take out 3 chinese storybooks, plus 3 english storybooks. She will insist that I read to her - all the storybooks she took out from the shelf.
last yr, she only picked up english storybooks, seldom touch Chinese storybooks. I told her - mommy tired tonight. So, mommy will just read 1 chinese story, plus 1 english, ok?
she replied in Mandarin to me, “No, cannot, Mommy ! Lao si said I must read as many chinese storybooks as possible at home. Then only can my chinese improve. So mommy, read all !”
i also like you … speak a lot of english at home.
i know i got to change … for her sake.
Thank God we have placed our kids in the right kindergarten !
