Which enrichment class to recommend for 1 yr old toddler?

Hi all,
Just want to share my 2 cents worth on schicida. my 2 DD attends shichida but the elder one stopped at 3 years old. my younger one now 22 mhts old is still attending it. i find the method quite good and i must say that my elder DD's memory is excellent (she remembers where i park my car exactly on which flr) and she can remember names and places very well. But above all, i find the method good becasue they enjoy it and find learning fun! It also builds a lot of confidence in them and i literally had no issue sending her off to school in a school bus by herself at age 2.5. Ho fuss and no crying! Since then, she's been atending many other classes like zoo-phonics, CMA, Berries and I have no issues with her learning independently. i hope my youngest one will follow suit as well so that i will have no issue when i leave her at her CC later on.
Zoo-phonics works for my DD, she's already reading story books at age 4. Berris is also good to start at younger age. i started her at a later age so not seing so much benefits. But my friends' child started at age 3 and now she's super with chinese..in fact better than her phonics...
i definetely would recommend Schicida, Zoo and Berries....anyways, just my 2 cents worth.....

What is the recommended age for Berries?
What is CMA? -
Hi Brainkid!
My friend started her child at age 3 so should be N1 level and she has seen tremendous progress in her child's chinese. They hardly speak mandarin at home with her and yet, her daughter can speak and recognize the letters very well.
I put my daughter to the wrong chinese enrichment class at age 4....her chinese is still very bad. :stupid: I recently sent her to Berries and I can already see why their programme is better.
CMA is mental arithmetics (abascus)....not for very young children. Only for those that can write their numbers well. So maybe you can keep that in mind..

can u share more details on berries? i would like some feedback if possible, how are their programmes better and do they have trial classes?
for parents who want sports programmes for toddlers, would recommend trying out these two, both of which my children tried before...can try kindergolf. like the environment of the place but a bit x, still ok, the kids like this http://www.kindergolf.com/
recommend the amk branch one
or visit Skate With Us (http://www.skate-with-us.com) where they specialised in teaching children to rollerblade. they have a special children programme where they use the montessori method and active play learning which is different from the normal skate schools. i prefer their small class size and i like that they have more female coaches -
Hi soursop
Can you share with us at which age did your children start Shichida, Zoophonics and Berries? Wondering if these classes are good for 13-month old kid. Thanks! -
Hi justlynne
For berries, I find that their curriculum is quite comprehensive and the standard is also pretty high. I say this because my DD was with Han languange before for 2 years before I swtiched her to Berries after good feedbacks. Han is quite bad really, regretted sending her there. Han is like tuition class which I feel is more suitable for bigger kids and not pre-schoolers. For Berries, the class is conducted in a fun way and they have homework which they need to complete with their parents. It’s a means to let know you how much they have covered and also serves as a revision. The curriculum is better set up and organised with proper books and printed materials instead of "photocopies". They learn comprehension and han yu pinyin among other things. Sometimes they do some craft work which may not be really "reading and writing" but I think it’s good too because they learn to listen to instructions in chinese.
In my DD’s class, they have 2 teachers attending to them rather than just 1 which is definitely better since more attention can be given to poorer slower students. I’m not sure about other outlets if they do the same by the Woodlands one is the one my DD attends.
However, I do have a friend who enrolled her son to K2 in Berries but was asked to be put in K1 because her son’s level of chinese wasn’t good enough at that point. So I think they go by the children’s capability too.
Yes, they have a trial lesson at $15. They will deduct the $15 if you decide to enrol. -
Hi yamdrink,
My eldest DD started Shichida at age 12 mths, the second DD started at 15mths (because she was on waitlist…yeah…very long que…so be prepared) My eldest DD stooped when she turned 2 because we had to go our of country for a year. Afer that she joined Shichida again at age 3 but had to stopped because my second one was coming along and we jsut couldn’t juggle anymore. My second DD is still with shichida now at 2 years and I plan to let her continue till 3 years old.
13mths is a good time to start shichida, it will expose her to "school" concept.
For Berries, they start excepting at Nursery level so maybe age 3? Zoophonics has various programmes. They take in at 18 mths onwards for once / week classes and 2.5 years for daily classes (if I’m not wrong). -
Hi All Mommies or Parents out there...
WARNING to parents out there who wish to send their kids to The Shichida Method Singapore. :scared:
They took 6 months to refund my deposits after constant chasing.
