                  Pls help:

                  John has a number of 10-cents coins and Mary has a number of 50-cents coins. John has 6 more coins than Mary but Mary has $9.00 more than John. How much does John has?

                    Number of coins;
                    Mary --> 1 unit
                    John --> 1 unit + 6

                    Amount;
                    Mary --> 1 unit * 50 = 50 units
                    John --> 10 units + 60

                    Since Mary has 900cents more than John;
                    50units - 10units - 60 => 900
                    40units => 900 + 60 = 960
                    1unit => 960 / 40 = 24

                    John;
                    10 * 24 + 60 = 300cents = $3.00

                      Sorry, I’m new here. Was surfing these forum and trying to contribute :-). And came across this question. After reading it, I have one question. Can you tell me why divide by 40?

                      i.e the step 960/40.
