JEI/PSLE Math - Discussion

The pictures of the activities shown on their website seems interesting. Doesn’t look like a tuition centre.

what’s their website address?
have not heard about this school -

Regarding the question on:- \"do they do Pre-school? PSLE Math sound like only for P6.\"
- They do actually. My younger boy who is in K2 this year attends the JEI math class. He has been attending since K1. They go according to your child's ability and therefore the child can progress at his own pace. When he first joined, they gave him a short test to evaluate his maths ability. Depending on the score, the teacher will recommend the appropriate starting level.
- My elder child who is in P3 enjoys the class. He was previously doing Kumon and was at Level G when he stopped last year. He did complain abt the difficulty on the maths questions and we noticed that his problem sums are not that good. Hence, decided to give JEI cum PSLE Maths a try and he has been doing great in maths.

I cannot compare enopi because never tried them before. I switched my child from MPM to JEI/PSLE Math. This is my analysis:
Student Teacher Ratio
------------------------
MPM : 12:2
JEI: 6:1
PSLE Math: 6:1
Environment
--------------
MPM : Can't comment on others, but the one I went was at Parkway Centre (Just next to JEI/PSLE Math). A bit rundown, sometime even smelly.
JEI: Looks like a childcare centre.
Content
----------
MPM : Claim is according to MOE syllabus, I doubt but cannot verify because I cannot keep the books.
JEI: According to IB syllabus.
PSLE Math: According to MOE
Heuristic Problem solving
---------------------------
MPM: NIL
JEI: NIL
PSLE Math: Thats their only focus
Strength
---------
MPM - workbooks and manipulatives
JEI Math - regular diagnostics tests and customised workbooks
PSLE Math - Heuristic problem solving
One thing I dislike about MPM is we cannot keep the books after the child complete it. For JEI, we can keep the books. PSLE Math - they try to enforce the student to do proper filing of the worksheets for revision and tracking.
Hope this is helpful. -
thanks sydney for the great comparison
i only tried mpm for 1-2 term when #1 was k2 (it was the old syllabus and very few questions. too simple for my girl. i expect more since the price was 440 a term.)
i just switched #2 (now k2) from enopi to mpm cos enopi (whc is smilar to kumon ie drillg type except the wkshets are colorful and not so boring, n has critical thinkg part), becos while enopi was good and structured - its only to kickstart my boy for maths foundation. after half a year, he did improve n able to do simple addition quite fast but lately they keep repeating the bklets, i find it a waste of money. 1 lesson is $35, so i certainly expect more, becos i m a sahm, i do teach at hm also, unlike FTWM who have no time, so basic drillg is gd enuf.
i m tryg mpm becos the new bks hv more questions, more creative n to train visual skills but i do agree they may not really hv heuristics and some questions i find simple but most impt of all - its not so structured becos its spiral. all topics are mixed in one whc i dont like. i prefer the structured part of enopi but since i hv tried, i m doing a switch.
(also becos my #3, n2, is doing jelic for logic training, and the centre offers both jelic n mpm)
jason mentioned the bklets are customised. whch is gd. so i prob will put #1 (p3) in jei and switch later if really gd.
i hv tried many cntres for my #1 for math since she p1 (mindstretecher - 1mth, vip learning 1 term, whizland 1 term. just started Just Education math. ) -
u r also right abt the wkbks. mpm quite commercialised, they scared pple copy their bks but then how to revise if dont hv the bks. anyway they are not really customised to moe syllabus enuf. esp the heuristics or olympiad math part
does PSLE math cover olympiad questions?
also, wat is IB syllabus?
