Unless can be used instead of if not.

For example,

I’ll go to Chinatown unless it rains. (I’ll go to Chinatown if it doesn’t rain.)

Drive unless you drink. (Drive if you don’t drink)

I find English difficult to learn.

From past readings, I observed that unless is usually followed by a verb in the affirmative (positive).

Unless refers to an exception.

It usually replaces 'if' + a negative verb.
