          but is affiliation that important?

For many pple, the ans would be a resounding yes.

The main purpose of PSLE is to get into a band 1 sec sch mah.

Even if one is confident of one's kid academic accomplishment, there's still the risk of 'ma you shi ti' (read as 'horse can fall down', see I'm not going to risk translating it to chinese characters anymore). πŸ˜‰

And there's really no harm if one is excellent academcially and studying in an affliated sch at the same time. It's like I go IR. Heads I win, tails I also win!

          U Mean IR Win, Right?
If Heads U Win, Tails U Also Win, - IR Would Have BAN U -liao!

            Funx3:

Many of the Parents R Worried that their Kids results, Being Not on the Star-Spangled Range, Might B Sent to Sch Not Within their Choice ....

So, In A Way, Can \"CHOP\" a Place in the Affiliated Sec Sch, provided of course that the Result is Not Too Far Off the Cut Off ....

And MINUS One Headache when it comes time for Join School Admission Excercise for Sec 1 ....

What I said was purely based on the academic consideration. But having said that, if you ask me to choose my ans now will be I won't encourage ds to switch to another sch just for the affiliation because of other non-academic considerations.

DS looks so happy in PH why would I want to risk changing anything. Anyway PH teachers are so good .....

                Hi,

My gal is currently in PHPPS P2, and I started thinking about whether to transfer her to pri schools with affiliation to sec school e.g MGS. Not sure if this is worth it, but I was told that 2 of her friends are considering transfering to NanYang! I read that the cut off points for reputable sec schools are at least 150 and above.
                Welcome.
                You mean 250 cut-off?

Seriously, at P2 there is still time to prep her. PHPPS is a very good school and has more than 20% that achieve >250 in the last two years.
Besides, it would not be easy to transfer to MGS/NYPS.
Caveat: unless you have special lobang. πŸ˜‰

if your child is truly passionate about math, invest in systematic math training, not just in MO.

Totally agreed. Wise counsel. Thank you again.

Pei Hwa is a good school and very popular. If you wish to transfer your daughter to another school, P2 is a good year to do so as most children would have adjusted to primary school and results at SA2 are generally not bad. However, it's no easy to transfer to MGS as wait list is VERY long.
