[/quote]One thing I know about PHPPS, is that the teacher will only release the worksheets esp English when CA1, SA1 or SA2 is coming. Which is not very good for parents who want to know what is happening? So for me, I will just teach/test my DD on the P2 English (use any P2 textbook to know the syllb. and P2 assessment bk) by myself . This way you don't have to worry whether your DD is 'ok' with her English. My DD is strong in English, hence I don't need to teach her everyday, whew!, one or two weeks before test date/exam, I will ask her to do one of the top pri sch paper ( either RGPS, NYPS ). If she is have time or didn't reach my expectation, then I will then assign her more.

Also, need some advice from parents here - do you spend time revising work with your child on a daily basis ? I realised that my gal doesn't have much homework, and most of the worksheets are done in school and its hard for me to gauge her progress or know what is taught in school other than asking her and testing her using assessment books. I read from the website that the SA1 is approachign soon, how do I find out what are the areas to be tested ?
Did your dd study in PHPPS when she was P1? why I ask is that is how PHPPS system work in P1 and P2 except this year there is no streaming from P1 to P2. Will like to found out more b4 sharing.[/quote
Yes, my gal has been with phpps since p1
When the teacher releases all the worksheets, I will then find out what types of mistakes and her weakness. With this knowledge, I will then set questions (can use the original) to test her. Must make sure that she understand and get the correct ans. If you really want to know how your DD is performing, you can request the EL teacher (I believe will be the form teacher) to let you have a look. What to be tested for SA1, I think if I can remember correctly, the teacher will hand a note on what to be tested when the exam date is nearer.
Try to find out what sort of teacher is teaching her? Is she hardworking? Does your DD like her lesson? These will help you determine how much your DD is learning. For P2, my DD's form teacher is Mdm See (incharge of EL & Math), hence I don't really have to worry much about her progress in EL & Math as I know that she is a very dedicated and good teacher (feedback from friends and relatives). -
Hi comfy,
Pei Hwa teachers ‘releases’ past year paper to students for practice very near to CA/SA…rather late for parents to do anything if the kids don’t do very well.
English is a language, so I am following it very closely esp since my son is not very strong. I get him to do comprehension passages of different nature for exposure. Yes teacher will give out CA/SA dates and what will be tested, will be printed on the other side. -

Agree. So don't wait for the past year paper. Once the teacher releases the daily/weekly worksheets, quickly go thru' with DS. I don't know why the teacher don't release them asap. Similarly for Science worksheets in P3. quite alot to go thru' with DD last year as teacher releases them very late and all together at the sametime. Quite a bad practice, IMHO.Hi comfy,

Yah I know, ranges from 75-89 rite? It's just that the chart I saw outside their ctr tabulated the % of tutees scoring at least A vs national ave which currently stands at around 44%. Theirs is almost double the national ave which makes it look so impressive.the range for a A grade is very wide.....a low A, mid-A, high A is a big gulf between them
verykiasu2010:
:!:someone posted in this forum that a 4As kid could have less than 200 in T-score, could not even get into Express stream
verykiasu2010:
The amazing thing abt SCGS is that though they accepted affliated students at 200, come O' Levels they can still achieve Band 1. Just imagine if they raise the bar for admission, next time maybe can fight with RGS/NYGS to be top dog.while school like SCGS used to set cut off at 200, it is now raised to 220, and higher progressively; while a kid with 4 high As could be touching 240+ in t-score.....

Got a query. DS devoured the Young Scientist vol I got from Popular within one mth. He’s crazy over it. I’ve also ordered online this yr’s issues but it’s coming in drips and drops at one issue per mth. So now I need to find some more books to keep up with his interest.
I’m thinking of getting him the National Geographic Kids & Horrible Science (what’s that anyway? Only thing I know is that CKS bought it so can’t be bad). Is Horrible Science too advance for P1? The other option is to get Young Scientist Level 2 from Popular.
Thing is, I prefer cash & carry. I don’t mind past yr issues. Is there anywhere I can take a look at them before buying? Don’t think Popular has. Thanks. -

Markfch, I heard from someone else that Bras Brasah has alot of 2nd past issue books, including Young Scientist. Popular carries one year before issue, like now, the 2010 issues, but of course, they do not come cheaper than the current year issue.
