Ya lah, that's the result of letting her keep the money herself. I told my mother in that case since she did not tell us about the hand-phone, she can jolly well finance the phone cards herself, told my family members not to buy her any phone cards.
it's good to keep mum about things that have happened - no point spoiling relations unless there is absolute proof. But on financing handphone usage, do take note. I've seen in a petrol station, a maid top up her phone card with a big bag of coins. Where the coins come from? One can only imagine. I think there was a fairly early posting about sources of such 'financing'. -

Hubby's colleague had a Filipino maid who ran away in the middle of the night. The embassy called the employer to go to the embassy the next morning. COMPLAINT made by maid is - Maid is left at home to look after bb all the time. Is the maid here to enjoy life or work ?The Straits Times

OMG, i not even dare to ask my maid to look after my baby at night, i am the one who need to wake up few times to feed my baby.

My 1st maid really looked after my daughter very well. She was like a 2nd mum to her...worried like mad when daughter had rashes due to fever (too many teeth erupting then). Then dressed her up like a doll when we went out. I cried when we sent her off at the airport. -

New law that kicks in in April dictates that employers will now bear the cost of bringing a maid into singapore.
In the past, maids bear the loan by paying back in installments with 6-8 months of their salary.
The new law dictates that their loan is now capped at 2 months. The rest will be borne by the employer.
How to hire a maid like that???
I would imagine …
(a) the maid will break her contract readily if she dislikes the employer. Just come up with some sob story and she’ll ask to return home.
(b) agency fees that i pay now is about $500 + insurance $100+.
with the new law, it means i have to pay additional 6*$350 = $2100.
so my total agency fee is $500+$2100 ?!??
that’s a bomb!
with such high fees, how to encourage more childbirth? I would rather stay home as a full time mum than to hire a full time maid. It will still be cheaper to hire a local singaporean aunty to come in to help with the weekly housework than to have a full time maid. -

But they are a rare breed.
My current maid loves my kids too, but its a trade off that housework is substandard. I choose to close my eyes since she treats my kids well, but sometimes i feel frustrated too that my housework is compromised.

They didn't ONCE mention MOM, just stated in the article that the maid's loan will now be reduced.
No particular mention how the new law will affect employers.
The reporter \"seemed\" more interested in interviewing maid agencies than MOM or even employers for that matter.
