New law that kicks in in April dictates that employers will now bear the cost of bringing a maid into singapore.
In the past, maids bear the loan by paying back in installments with 6-8 months of their salary.
The new law dictates that their loan is now capped at 2 months. The rest will be borne by the employer.
How to hire a maid like that???
I would imagine …
(a) the maid will break her contract readily if she dislikes the employer. Just come up with some sob story and she’ll ask to return home.
(b) agency fees that i pay now is about $500 + insurance $100+.
with the new law, it means i have to pay additional 6*$350 = $2100.
so my total agency fee is $500+$2100 ?!??
that’s a bomb!
with such high fees, how to encourage more childbirth? I would rather stay home as a full time mum than to hire a full time maid. It will still be cheaper to hire a local singaporean aunty to come in to help with the weekly housework than to have a full time maid. -

But they are a rare breed.
My current maid loves my kids too, but its a trade off that housework is substandard. I choose to close my eyes since she treats my kids well, but sometimes i feel frustrated too that my housework is compromised.

They didn't ONCE mention MOM, just stated in the article that the maid's loan will now be reduced.
No particular mention how the new law will affect employers.
The reporter \"seemed\" more interested in interviewing maid agencies than MOM or even employers for that matter. -
Since the competition for FDWs increase, may be is time to lower the minimum age of FDWs to 20 - 21 years instead of 23 years old.

Since I'm a SAHM, I did help out to look after my kids when she did housework. -

Maids now readily ask for change of employer once they are NOT happy. -

the agencies get around this by making passports for these FDWs with false info on their age.
Mostly Indon and Myanmarese girls ... they come at 17 / 18 but delcare they are 23.
So this 23yo ruling isnt a huge obstacle.
