It's expensive enough having a maid now (excluding her meals and accomodation), if their loans are passed on to employers, how can couples afford to maintain a maid and a bb ? That's as good as having 2 babies.anyone read the papers over the weekend?

I would imagine ...
(a) the maid will break her contract readily if she dislikes the employer. Just come up with some sob story and she'll ask to return home.
Maids now readily ask for change of employer once they are NOT happy. -

Since the competition for FDWs increase, may be is time to lower the minimum age of FDWs to 20 - 21 years instead of 23 years old.
the agencies get around this by making passports for these FDWs with false info on their age.
Mostly Indon and Myanmarese girls ... they come at 17 / 18 but delcare they are 23.
So this 23yo ruling isnt a huge obstacle. -

yesterday went to an agent I asked the Indon sal he said 400 so I said that means now loan is reduced he said no its 8 months I said how.. he was no we pay 2000+ to the indon agency for the loan blah blah so i asked that mean the maid is trained he said no u need to train her :!: :!:
You will still be paying 2000+ to the agency after the new law kicks in, just that you can't get any of that $$ back except for the first 2 months of your maid's salary.

NO NEED TO TRAIN ? Does the agency mean the maid is so well trained that she can cook an edible meal, fry an egg, use household equipment like washing machine, look after kids the way we do it ?

This problem is with Indonesian and Filipino ones. Wonder if there will be a problem if Sri Lanka or Myanmar maids are brought in.

Too MANY BTOs are built now...honestly, a brand new HDB flat isn't cheap. BTO comes as an 'empty' shell. A lot of money has to be put in to fill up that shell, on top of that, that headache of contractors. Oh yes, don't forget renovating costs excludes furniture and household utensils and equipment. I would rather get a DBSS bcos the headache of renovating is done.

they the agencies have been fleecing the maid for so long so many years in terms of 'loan' that the maid needed to 8 to 10 months of pay to settle, out of a 24 months contract. with all these outcry from the Indo and Philippine governments, they now shift the target to the maid employers - first raise the minimum to please the foreign government, then charge you xx number months of minimum pay for their services.......maid employers are suck dry on so many counts
