I totally empathise with you. Especially when we're working parents, it's even harder cos the time we get with the kiddo is so limited. Plus both mama and son are tired by dinner time
Thanks. I put my son through Abacus when he was 5. So he has no problem with Mathematics (in terms of addition and subtraction). In fact, his favourite subject is Math. We also concentrate a lot in CL but unfortunately it is still not enough because his CL is still CMI kind. We spend so much time on his CL that we somehow forget about his EL. We just discover that actually his EL is not good as well. So we are struggling as well. We hardly have time during weekdays to coach him as we are both working. Life of parents is not easy man....Namie:
I am so stressed up trying to revise with my son. There seems to be so much to be covered within such short time. Can't even spot questions! And I just discovered my son's comprehension for Maths is 0!
Here is it.
Following are the items which will be tested:-
(5 questions per section)
1) 看图选拼音: the students are to choose the correct hypy for each given picture.
2) 看图选句子: to choose the correct sentences for each given picture, the sentences will be given in hypy.
3) 填写音节: the students are to write down the hypy for each picture, including 声调 (4 sounds). Most boys may find this section challenging.
4) 连一连: given 5 chinese characters, the boys are to match the correct hypy to the chinese word.
The test will cover HYPY 1 to HYPY 6, i.e. pg 5-34 of the CL textbook. Other than textbook, you can also revise the following with your boy:
Tingxie list 听写表
HYPY small booklet (HYPY duben) 汉语拼音读本.
I've only managed to cover up to lesson 3 and we're still at a CMI stage. I can only pray the test is not tomorrow! Praying hard it's Thurs/Fri!! -
My son is in student care and by the time We reached home and had dinner, it was 9. He has to sleep by 10 so there is hardly anytime. Really envy my colleagues’ and friends whose in laws were varsity educated and retired. They picked up their grandchildren and coach them after school. Mine just sat in front of the TV set from 7am till their bedtime watching Cantonese and Hokkein shows on SCV. So far 3 TV sets had gone up in smoke. My son also does not make use of his precious time in student care to study.

I was reading thru my son's EL homework. I told him he cannot put a full stop in front of \"because\". He replied if he didn't do that he would not have 5 sentences for his passage.

Oh no!!! Did the teacher give the date for the test??bigfoot:
Anyone know what will be tested for next week's P1 CL unit test? The CL teacher sent me a document of what will be tested. Unfortunately, the words (in HYPY) looks like gibberish to me. Not sure if it is something wrong with the source or my PC. But I tested in a few PCs, still looks the same. So I suspect it is the source. Cannot wait for the CL teacher to reply our email. If you know, please post it here. Thanks in advance.

Also, the powerpoint lessons that are uploaded in the AsknLearn LMS are already taught in class right? Does the kids still have to go thru at home?? -

That is just so funny...your son's learning how to survive in his new environment!

The teacher didn't give a date. I have given up on my son. We came home early today but he is howling away, refusing to do his homework. -
I confess, looking at the type of questions in the test, I'm now 'sacrificing' the most difficult question ie question 3, since there's no way DS can write the correct letters PLUS tone. As it is, ting xie with its limited number of words is already a struggle, what more 6 lessons worth of words!
As long as DS has answer options, I realised he has no qualms about guessing. So we're now aiming to understand only key words to help him in his guesswork

I guess we are all struggling. Hopefully our son will be more resilient.I confess, looking at the type of questions in the test, I'm now 'sacrificing' the most difficult question ie question 3, since there's no way DS can write the correct letters PLUS tone. MY DS used to have problem with letters and tones. Luckily my DW didn't give up and put in more time coaching him over the weekends. He seem to be able to do better now. But he still make mistakes. But I guess that's a good start. Don't want to stress by telling him that he must get full mark or do very well. We will use this coming test to guage how ready he is in CL.
I agreed with the part about our sons being tire in the afternoon. His routine after reaching home is
1. Eat lunch
2. Bath
3. Watch TV till Daddy or Mummy comes home.
We tried asking him to do his homework first but he said he is very tire and would rather watch TV. By the time we reach home, his brain is more or less shutdown already. His sleeping time is around 8.30pm. Any later we would have problem waking him up in the morning.
Was thinking whether Student Care would help but decided against it as we don't want him away from home for too long. Guess it will take us a while to get use to this routine. -
My son mentioned that their PAL teacher told them that next week is the last lesson. Is that right?

OK, thank God I am not alone in this struggle… I holler at my DS almost everyday! All he wants is play, TV, play. Luckily his student care has tuition included so he does all his homework and revision there. DH has revised the CL test with him last weekend and we also asked the student care teacher to drill him further. Hopefully it works.
At first DS slept at 9.30pm and found it difficult to wake up. He has decided himself to sleep at 8.30pm now. I am surprised Namie’s ds can sleep at 10pm and still manage to wake up.
It is a real challenge for us to monitor their schoolwork with so little time.
