Hi everyone, need some advice on this as I'm not very familiar with the system here.

I got a call today from DD's Chinese teacher. It was out of the blue while I was at the office and I thought it was some emergency. But she basically called to tell me that DD doesn't really understand her in class and asked if I speak to her at home in Chinese.

I explained to her that we just returned from overseas at the end of last year (after Christmas) after being away for two years and whatever little DD learnt was lost so have to start all over again.

It's a long story but the gist of it was that my DD couldn't understand her and can't speak well and she can't possibly keep translating for her alone. She even compared her to an Indian girl in her class who is doing better!!! She didn't even offer a solution!

Bottom line is I know she's not on par with the rest and have started tuition this year immediately after getting back to SG. But I was really surprised by the negative vibe I got from her and how informal this 'feedback' was.

Can any other parent let me know if this is standard practice where the teacher can just call up any time to 'complain' about the child? I've been advised by colleagues that perhaps I should write to HOD about this but I'm hesitant to 'cause trouble'.

Would love to hear any comments on this. Thanks in advance for your input!
Understand that it does not feel good to receive a call out of no where, from a teacher whom, you have not met or spoken to and be bombarded by such a feedback.

Just my take on this. Complaining to the HOD will not solve the problem. Why not take the lead on this. The teacher has already feedback to you that your girl is not coping well. Granted she could have approached it better but what is more important is to help your child catch up, not teach the teacher the finer aspects of communication. Call the teacher up, arrange a meeting and work out how to help your child improve. Going forward, keep the communications open. I believe all teachers will appreciate a parent who is doing her part to help their child and hence be more forthcoming with help and suggestions.

Mine is also P3 and just like Luanee’s girl, mine hardly has any homework at all. Even for the Chinese New Year break she didnt had to do any homework and best of all till date, I have been hearing that her maths teacher is always on MC…xian just like her FT for the past 2 years…

                    Hi all

MY DD have Maths homework almost everyday for the activity book. Usually 5 to 6 pages and also Chinese activity book. She also got to do the zhi shi hua bao which take her very long to complete. This is a weekly work to be done. Other than that she had English & MT Spelling. Also Science homework if she has Science lessons on that particular day. And sometimes English compo wiritng. I really find it hard for her to cope.

What should I do? She is tired as she wake up so early every day and so much to do. Really have no time for other revision. I am really worried. 🙏

My DD get up so earlier every day, not only her but also me, both feel very tired. I'm thinking to rent a house near her school, this maybe better for all of us.

                        Hi ctct61t

Good idea! However the rental rate around that area is pretty expensive…
