Indonesian maid salary to be increased to $450???

I totally agree ! I heard that in HK and Taiwan, maids must pay their loan in full before going there. It is so ridiculous that employers in Singapore have to pay the loan. Then if the maid does not like an employer, she can simply asked to leave. The new employer must pay for the balance of her maid loan. How can the maid be motivated to work hard ?

I also heard that in Taiwan, if a maid has been sent back by the employer, there is no way she can find work in Taiwan again. This ensures that bad maids are not being transferred to other employers, and also ensures that maids are motivated to work hard. If the same rule applies in Singapore, then I don't mind paying a high salary for maids, provided that I am guaranteed to get a good maid.

There is no reason why employers have to pay for maids' loans in full. If the maids do not feel the pinch, they will just ask for change of employer at their whim...not happy with employer or employer's mother, or else not happy cooking etc etc. It's just like their toiletries, if maid doesn't pay for her toothpaste, she can finish one big tube in 1 month !!!

Heard that for HK, same thing also. if the employer wants to terminate the maid, she has to fly back - cannot find work in HK unless she's back in her home country.

well, we now have expats from all countries. I know of Indian ones who bring their grandmas over to jaga the household. So these also considered?

And I don't agree that expat household = good life. This only true if there are no kids or the kids are big enough. If got baby, they probably have to jaga the baby full time also. I know of this highflying angmoh couple...I do not believe for one moment that the couple will take care of the baby at night becos they have to fly a lot. Understand they also encounter maid issues.

The bad news probably kept under wraps. Methinks that media may just be trying to get us SG employers accustomed to the idea that we have to pay more. period. (imagination may be attributed to too much conspiracy theory)

I totally agree wz converting levy to maid's salary. I rather pay my maid higher salary than paying the levy.

That I totally agree. Since I have to pay levy, might as well pay the maid instead of govt. What's the point of paying govt for not doing anything ?
Hopefully can transfer the levy amt to maid and hope they give more quality.

Working mothers get tax relief for the levy paid. But not maid salary.

hmm... just 1 maid to take care of 1 newborn and 1 toddler... many people employ 2 maids in that case, myself included, to ensure that they are not overworked. Who says only expat families can have good life?

if i remember correctly, philippines and indonesia did impose a short ban on some asian countries because of low salary dispute and abuse.


now saudi arabia impose a ban on maids coming from indonesia and the latter claimed any prolonged ban will hurt its economy despite the widespread abuse of maids over there. the degree of abuse including rape in my opinion is far far much worse than what i have seen in newspapers reports here.

:lol: I have my fair share of problems... but the one who gave me the most issues was my first maid of 4 years. Her attitude only improved after I got a second maid since she realised that she wasn't indispensable (which she thought she was as I have absolute zero extended family support).

Mind you, we treated her well... to the extent that some people thought that I should have called her \"Mdm\"... :lol:

Wow :shock: 2 maids to make sure they are not over-worked. Your maids have 好命. Do your maids draw the line as to what they do ? Will they help each other out ?
A friend of mine stays at her parents place...she has one maid and her parents have one. Though same nationality, the 2 maids are rather calculative.
